Matt Seabrook Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 I doubt that a standard out of the factory Westfield or an R500 as good as both cars are would better the Zondas time. If we are talking about some of the more radical incarnations that people have put together (ie K2RUM) and the like then that I would like to see. Quote
SteveD Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 hmmmmm to much excitment to soon i think me thinks there will be a lot of long faces when c a t e r h a m beat the xtr's time ,come on you know its goin to happen, and maybe fat arnies k2 rum will beat it but not with him driving ,rumour has it he cant string a lap round curbrough together Quote
peterpeter Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 id still like to see a 996 turbo do the lap..and make clarkson eat his smelly pants. Quote
Al Yupright Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Well done Westfield that would of saved them millions in advertising... Absolutely, I can almost hear all those people typing "Westfield" into their search engines.. There will be a Fury Fireblade on there sometime, I know it's been filmed, but dont know when it'll be on there. Obviously its not as quick as the XTR or the Zonda, but its cheap. Interesting that they will have at least two kit-cars on there then, I thought they were fairly restrained with enthesising that kit-car-ness of the Westfield. They kept referring to building it in a shed, I wish I had a shed that big Looks like Westfield have a good relationship with the beeb, first Blue Peter, now Top Gear, Fred Dibnah next!? Cheers, Al Quote
Deadscoob1 Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Guess that's why top gear didn't want ours - guess Westfield didn't want something on the TV that looks better and is faster Quote
westy Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 never caught the original challenge was it just for production cars or did it include modified ones? Quote
DavidBirchZEI220 Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 I note in Autocar this week - Westfield were criticised for not being at motor show. I think they chose a much better alternative. I don't think the 996 will beat the XTR2 on this track. Too tight and twisty. It lost to the XTR2 in Evo track car of the year. The XTR2 beat an R300 but there was no R500. The quickest car was the radical but this was fitted with a heavily modified engine pushing out 250bhp. An XTR2 with a Holeshot Hyabusa turbo conversion - now there's an eye watering idea. Quote
DavidBirchZEI220 Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Craig Don't forget the Beep are a little bit commercial now. I assume that they will be looking for Westfield to place a few adds in Top Gear Magazine so will always take the factory car. I think this factory car is quite well sorted now suspension wise so even if slightly heavier than yours will stand up well when compared to other XTRs. I wonder if they had a chance to do any last minute engine mods. David Quote
Ian Podmore Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 They didn't say anything about modified or not.... Now eagily awaiting each weeks challenger. This challenge has livened up an already 'different' programme. Shame the Beeb didn't use a modified XTR2.... Loved the 1.2 ish g that the XTR pulled around one of the corners. Wouldn't mind some of that. Surely the SLR500 will make an appearance, perhaps a Radical or isn't that a road car? They should try the SBD car, as long as 'Stig' or whoever he is wears that excellent pink helmet that one of the SBD drivers has got. Roll on next Sunday. Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 hmmmmm to much excitement to soon I think I think that speaking personally Steve it was nice to see a Westfield bet a Zonda and lets not forget thrash the of a Lambo and all from something you can put together in a shed. Yes I agree with you the XTR2 is not the fastest car on the planet or round the TG track but credit where credit is due that is one fast car round a track. Not sure how it would far over the speed bumps up thought the main street though Quote
jonlewis Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Well Done Westfield. Almost makes me want to change my order from a Megabusa !!! I think the £20k talked about was a bit optimistic though !! Quote
ricdiggle Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Yup - Kudos for Westfield. Can't wait to see what beats it now. I seem to remember Richard Hammond building a kit car - possibly a Tiger - once on Men and Motors. Maybe that's helped the kits get onto the Beeb. Don't think a 996 Turbo is even comparable though guys. It will be almost as quick, I'm sure, but that would be to miss the point of the two cars. The XTR2 is doubtless an incredible track day and weekend car but a 996 Turbo is simply awesome at everything and can be used everyday. They are totally different in every way. Likewise, the R500. It could well be quicker, but at what cost? What would a £45,000 XTR2 do round the track? Quote
I AM NOT A NUMBER!!! Posted November 4, 2002 Posted November 4, 2002 It’s just been my misfortunate to sit through the 1 hour of torpid dross called Top Gear waiting to see the XTR2. Apparently this was show number 2 and how the series managed that feat is going to remain a mystery to me until my final breath. Of course, when the corporate nonces, fat on our licence fees, sat around a table and designed the series it must have looked great on paper: Good old ladish (43) Gezza Clarkson fronting a free form show based around cars. Let’s have a sweaty dwarf and an unctuous lard-ball as the two ugly co-presenters to make Gezza look slimmer, taller and better looking. Well, that was the idea and what we got was Curly, Larry and Mo in a dire version of the 3 stooges. Let us all hope and pray that this abomination is put out of it’s misery and Clarkson goes back to what he does best; except that was 20 years ago when he was lean and hungry. And before you all start bleating about the XTR2 being featured, I’d just like to say, if you put a cherry on a dog turd it doesn’t change into a cake and putting a car like that into a show like this is a scandal. Maybe they should just boot out Clarkson and have the XTR2 present the show instead. Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted November 4, 2002 Posted November 4, 2002 missed it does anybody now if it is repeated on sky, ie bbc choice? Quote
