RedditchJay Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 ok.... fair point....... still going to be a good, size project LOL Quote
perksy Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 why not buy a rolling chassis to do this project rather than stripping a sorted motor ?? Indeed To be fair with the amount of work involved its going to end up pretty much a rolling chassis anyway Especially by the time the loom, engine mounts, exhaust etc etc are sorted... Each to his own though Best of luck Quote
Speed Freak Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 admittingly its not going to be a small job! Im certainly throwing myself in at the deep end.. As far as literature research goes, Im doing alright, and done a lot of homework.... its the practice thats missing, but I guess theyres only one way to get that! wiring is a scary thought, but I might end up making it a bit easier on myself and installing some sort of race tech dash 2 or similar....as its easier to marry up with the sensors.. Im not very well kitted to do the work tbh... ive got a lot of tools at home in germany, which does me a fat lot of good now!!! will go out and buy some stuff tho as will need it anyway, spanner set etc... im lucky to have a mate in shrewsbury too who said I could borrow the odd tool/engine crane etc! but perksy if you ever get nosy, or fancy helping out a fellow salopian, the help would be much appreciated!!! the same goes for anyone else whose in the area!!! nikpro Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 What sort of timeframe are you looking at Tim? Quote
Speed Freak Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 well i'll be going back to germany start of feb.. so the engine/box/ n all needs to be fitted which shouldnt be a problem... the wiring might take some time, as I dont have the first clue tbh... but I could get that done over in germany (i'll be trailering it over anyway)as my neighbour builds and sells quad bikes so hes in the know (so to speak).I would like to get it all done tho before then.. p.s im just on the burton website pricing up some FERODO BRAKE PADS! 2 on offer: Part Number: FER167 Part Number: FER167H Quote
nikpro Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Best get your finger out then! Have you got the Engine and Gearbox? Quote
Speed Freak Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 ive had a couple of quotes from breakeryards, but steved said he would prob be able to get hold of an s2000 salvage car, and im waiting on him to let me know.(as id rather give my money to a wscc member than just anyone!). Quote
nikpro Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Tim, think long and hard about this conversion! I was speaking to Richard today (Knows much more about Honda Conversions than I ever could) and he reckons you will really struggle! He was one of the first to do the Honda Conversions on the Lotus Elise along with Simon Scuffum and the kit was eventually developed by Eliseparts. They could not sell the conversion to Germany because of all the emissions regs stuff that had to be removed to fit the conversion in (different engine I know) - he reckons the space under a Westfield bonnet will be even more problematic. The car will need dry-sumping to get enough ground clearance and the oil tank will take up a lot of room. he also reckons the original airbox along with a standard ECU and all the emissions stuff will need to fit in there. Make sure it's very carefully thought out before you 'rip a good car apart'. good Luck. Quote
Speed Freak Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 thanks for the word of warning-nice to know someones looking out for me. I have spoken to a few people who have done the overhaul.. even got pictures from a guy in america whose done exactly what Im wanting to do... The engine will go in complete with std intake and dry sump with relative little work (hes actually kept the sump std!!!).... if I wanted to go down the road of pure track racing then I would have to spend a lot more time on the chassis mods to get engine as far down and back as poss... the easiest route it to take out the crossmember above the tunnel and raise it 2 inches so that the bellhousing will go back further.. Westys with the zetec to mt75 box come with a wider tunnel, and I got this specifically, because I knew the s2000 box would fit.. Spoke to yukspeed, they can supply me drysump, pan, engine mount adjustment, just need to get hoses and tank. will go down the v8 bonnet route as to get the extra clearance. Im not unprepared, just lacking a bit in the knowledge/experience department-but only one way to change that! ;-) as much as Ive probably bitten off a bit more than I can chew, theyres only one real way to learn, and thats from making mistakes-and hopefully a few of you fellow friends can help me a long the way! Tonsko Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Good luck Timmeh! I would not have the balls to buy a brand new toy and then tear its guts out. I tip my hat to you! Will be happy to pop over sometime to have a look. (Not that I know anything. It would be just that - a look! ) Quote
