fatbaldbloke Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I'm an armchair fan of Jools Holland, however on Saturday I went with Mrs FBB to the Royal Albert Hall to watch him and his rhythm and blues band in concert to a sell out audience. His TV appearances absolutely undersell his musicianship, he is a stunning pianist and his band was fantastic. If you like live music and the chance comes along to watch Jools and his band, grab it! flyingbanana Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Agreed! He is great muscian, and much understated on TV. I have one of the CDs of him and the band, but not seen him live for a while. Quote
RedditchJay Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 fantastic with the piano BUT something about his telivision manner I can't warm toooo, dont know what it is about him.... but take nothing away from the talent he has... Quote
pistonbroke Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 fantastic with the piano BUT something about his telivision manner I can't warm toooo, dont know what it is about him.... but take nothing away from the talent he has... Probably because he isn't made up to the nines , wearing silly glasses a shell suit and doc martins Quote
lippydave Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 fantastic with the piano BUT something about his telivision manner I can't warm toooo, dont know what it is about him.... but take nothing away from the talent he has... I think it's probably because he's a musician first and foremost, and not a wannabe celebrity.... Best quote on a similar subject I heard was from Taylor Hawkins (drummer with the Foo Fighters). When questioned by a journo', "So what's it like to be a rockstar in one of the worlds biggest bands...?" He replied "I'm not a f*cking rockstar, I'm a f*cking musician.." Quote
RedditchJay Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 very true........ although when the TUBE used to be on he was good at that back in the 90's Quote
fatbaldbloke Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 QUOTE fantastic with the piano BUT something about his telivision manner I can't warm toooo My wife's exactly the same, and she still didn't like the chat on stage, but she stood up with everyone else and applauded his music. The whole of the floor level audience was standing and dancing. Quote
SootySport Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I go every year to see him at Southend in November, the band absolutely knock me out with their musicianship, Jools also has some decent guests touring with him. Quote
fatbaldbloke Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 QUOTE Jools also has some decent guests touring with him. Amongst others on Saturday night they had Chris Difford from Squeeze, so with Gilson Lavis on drums anyway they had 3/4 of Squeeze so did some of their hits. Jools then, after 25 years since she last toured, tempted no less than Sandie Shaw to do a turn, and she was awesome! Quote
SootySport Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Chris Difford was a t Southend as well, as was Buddy Greco and Ruby Turner (She does give it her all) Last year was Alison Moyet was a guest although dissapointingly only did one number. Quote
fatbaldbloke Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 Ruby Turner there as well on Saturday. More or less keeled over against the piano after one number, too exhausted to take a bow, but came back later for some more songs. Quote
tankerman24 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I agree , I saw Jules and his band live last month what a b****y good night. Ruby turner is amazing, she puts so much effort into every song. and the brass section has just got to be heard to be believed Quote
