Pinto Gearbox Extension

Has anyone fitted the gear lever extension on an SDV - Type 9?

The one in the kit seems to imply that I have to knock out or drill the cover at the rear of the gear selector shaft to allow the new extension to poke through and connect to the selector shaft.

If this is the case, what is to stop all the road dirt and crap from finding its way into the gearbox :(

I'll take some picis later and post them to explain the problem a little more accurately.

In the mean time, anyone  ???

You need to knock out the end plate to feed extension through and you dont get any crap in there. Simple!

Its doesn't sound quite right not to re-seal up the assembly again although I accept what you say since thats exactly how it looks to me.

Sorry this is a bit dark but dies show how I think it goes together. Nope the reversing switch cable isn't just cut - its twisted around the back of the plug :-)

I'm sure all the dirt off the road will find its way into this hole :-(

its up to you but the std shirtfer will be a bit to long really, catch the latest westfield world mag, there is an article in there how to chop it down, also there is a link on the rhoc site on how to make a quickshifter also.

Remember to also remove the reverse gear stop from the box itself as the extension piece has one already

Thanks. To be honest I'm not sure what you mean at the moment. I'll refer to Mr Haynes tonight and see what I find.

Hmmmmmm.

OK, right.   The damn thing won't fit.  The shaft is 9mm wide and the milled section on the extension fork is 7mm.

Has anyone else had this problem, or am missing something :durr:   and being a stupid  :arse:
