Enterpryse Posted November 1, 2003 Posted November 1, 2003 Has anyone fitted the gear lever extension on an SDV - Type 9? The one in the kit seems to imply that I have to knock out or drill the cover at the rear of the gear selector shaft to allow the new extension to poke through and connect to the selector shaft. If this is the case, what is to stop all the road dirt and crap from finding its way into the gearbox I'll take some picis later and post them to explain the problem a little more accurately. In the mean time, anyone Quote
Terry Everall Posted November 1, 2003 Posted November 1, 2003 You need to knock out the end plate to feed extension through and you dont get any crap in there. Simple! Quote
Enterpryse Posted November 1, 2003 Author Posted November 1, 2003 Its doesn't sound quite right not to re-seal up the assembly again although I accept what you say since thats exactly how it looks to me. Stuart Quote
Enterpryse Posted November 1, 2003 Author Posted November 1, 2003 These are the picis of the extension lever. Just holding it up to the gearbox Sorry this is a bit dark but dies show how I think it goes together. Nope the reversing switch cable isn't just cut - its twisted around the back of the plug :-) I'm sure all the dirt off the road will find its way into this hole :-( Stuart Quote
stu999 Posted November 2, 2003 Posted November 2, 2003 Terry is spot on. knock the 'core plug' out and jobs a gudun. Dont worrt about the crap getting in. Quote
wookie Posted November 2, 2003 Posted November 2, 2003 I fitted one to my SDV, and did the gearlever chop down, that b******d anti-vibration bush was a job to get off, angle grinder did the trick tho......just pack it all up with grease, like stu said jobs agoonden Quote
Enterpryse Posted November 2, 2003 Author Posted November 2, 2003 What's the mod with the gear lever?? S Quote
wookie Posted November 2, 2003 Posted November 2, 2003 its up to you but the std shirtfer will be a bit to long really, catch the latest westfield world mag, there is an article in there how to chop it down, also there is a link on the rhoc site on how to make a quickshifter also. Quote
Terry Everall Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 Remember to also remove the reverse gear stop from the box itself as the extension piece has one already Terry Quote
Enterpryse Posted November 4, 2003 Author Posted November 4, 2003 Thanks. To be honest I'm not sure what you mean at the moment. I'll refer to Mr Haynes tonight and see what I find. Stuart Quote
Enterpryse Posted November 4, 2003 Author Posted November 4, 2003 Hmmmmmm. OK, right. The damn thing won't fit. The shaft is 9mm wide and the milled section on the extension fork is 7mm. Has anyone else had this problem, or am missing something and being a stupid Stuart Quote
