dombanks Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 does anyone have any recomendations for s good way to be able to clean my sofa on a regular basis. i was thinking one of those steam mops or maybe that rug doctor thing? i know you can get a bloke in to do it but they seem hugely expensive and i want to do it every 2 weeks thanks Quote
Meakin Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 If its a leather sofa I can recommend "clear up" leather cleaning wipes. With a 4 year old we get all sorts over the sofa but these clean it up like baby wipes but work with the leather. Hope that helps Paul Quote
dombanks Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 thanks a leather one would be so much easier but unfortunatly its a cloth one. i recon with the quotes ive been getting i would be cheaper to replace the sofa every 6 months. maybe just a deep clean and get some covers that are washable made for it is the only option Quote
bhouse Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 The best method depends on what's made the sofa dirty in the first place. And I'm not sure I want to know Quote
samcooke Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Get yourself a Puzzi : http://www.karcher.co.uk/uk....040.htm You wouldn't believe the crap they drag out of dirty filthy old car interiors. Quote
dombanks Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 to be perfectly honest its to try and reduce the levels of cat dander in my house. her indoors seems to have a worsening cat allergy. when she comes round she gets a itchy nose but recently its been getting worse. this correlates directly with the temps outside getting colder and hence the cats are in more and as my house is the size of a postage stamp they end up sleeping on the sofa a lot. the sofa generally has a throw over it when im not in to reduce the level of crud they put on it and this gets removed but this sofa has had years of the X sitting on it in her s****y crap ridden horse clothes. ive had the removable bits dry cleaned but at 40 quid a pop if i could do it with a steam cleaner of some sort then i would consider getting one and doing it more regular. they also look pretty handy for the rest of the house Quote
Hammy Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 You can teach the cat to keep off the furniture , when we had a cat years back we did this after a flea epidemic . Easier if you dump the settee and get a new one at the same time- possibly a leather one . Quote
bobsy Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 There's a trade valeting stuff called "extract" we used it when we were dealing in commercials. It basically got anything out of everthing. Years of cigarette smoke out of headlinings with just a damp sponge, grease out of the seats with a gentle scrub, amazing stuff. Quote
Captain Colonial Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Shave the cats. One, it will solve the problem totally. Two, they will stay indoors to keep warm so you never worry about them. Three, it will stop them getting furballs and shedding. It won't be easy. Cats don't like being shaved bald for some reason. So you need to quiet them down first. Gassing them a bit is hit and miss, so forget that. Same with sleeping pills. I suggest alcohol. Something sweet like sherry or port should entice them and do it, but don't waste money on vintage stuff, they won't know the difference. Put down a little at a time every thirty minutes until they're hammered, and when they finally pass out, grab and shave them. Quote
dombanks Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 ha ha ha thats very funny. i think this would be the outcome! Quote
