Ive just noticed a fault with one of my tyres - it has a flat spot causing vibration- Black circles are resisting my claim, saying I need to buy a new tyre so they can send it back to the manufacturer . I'm resisting this saying my claim is with them

Anyone else had any problems ?

How do you know it has a flat spot? I've never seen this on a new tyre.... Is it visible? If you get vibration after balancing has the balancing machine been calibrated?

If it is a flat spot how would you prove you hadn't locked up and created it?

Just thinking how they might look at it....

Out of interest what tyre did you buy?

If you return a tyre to a retailer and the retailer can't determine the cause of the complaint then the retailer is within their rights to send it back to the manufacturer for further assessment. (Black Circles are unlikely to have anybody that knows anything about tyres other than how much they cost and what the size means).  The retailer has no obligation to supply you a tyre in the mean time. You also have no obligation to buy a replacement tyre in the mean time either. If you brought a quality tyre from Black Circles you should have an answer within a couple of weeks or so. If you brought a budget tyre then all I can say is best of luck.

To be honest it may cost a couple of pound or so more but buy from a local retailer in future if you can. You are more likely to get assistance than fobbed off.

Sorry I cant be much more help.

I'd tend to agree about buying locally .tyre is a Pirelli P6000 and fitted to my Mondeo ( anti lock brakes) . The flat spot can be  seen when the wheel is turned, there is no loss of tread in the area just a depressed surface - its about 10mm down ina small area.

By the time I've had the tyre removed and sent back and they refund for the life left its not worth it - feel as tho I've been done !

To be honest if its a major brand ie Pirelli Goodyear Dunlop etc from my experience they are very fair and will allow a reasonable allowance if the tyre is faulty. If there is naff all tread then you are probably right its not worth the trouble.

No Gary its fairly recent - its not like an out of balance tyre you feel it through the whole car, checked wheel bearings, drive shafts  etc then noticed this one tyre - its done roughly 10k miles.

Noticeable from 60mph onwards worst 70+

Was it a rear tyre on a front wheel drive car?

No front on front wheel drive

Ok one thing to rule out.

I might be tempted to have it re-balanced  and stick it on the rear....

If you want to picket Pirelli in Burton... I'll give you 1/2 an hour.....want some beer for it though...  :p

I have found a sidewall bulge on one of the Volvo's tyres today, just 14k miles old. It's a Continental ContiSport3. Hadn't occurred to make any warranty claim, just ordered 2 tyres from local fitter at £2 less per tyre than Black Circles.

The big problem with Pirelli tyres is when the wear surface is gone the rest of the tread is soft an wears out far too quickly.

I have come away fro P Zeroes for this very reason. A well known tyre wholesaler in Birmingham told me that is a common complaint on the brand.
