lippydave Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I started to write a missive about how a car's character is interpreted differently by all of us.... Then I thought to myself... A Westie is a charcterful car in extremis, full of inherent faults and odd quirks, flawed and impractical in many respects, yet with a deeeply satisfying and enjoyable vein of character running straight through the middle of it. We love them depsite their characterful quirks and because of their virtuous charcteristics..... IMHO a car is a deeply personal choice and one man's meat is another man's poison. F'rinstance you said that to you (rocketRabbit), a 944/968 is a desirable car.Having owned a couple of older 944's I wouldn't call them particularly desirable, nor characterful, merely old fashioned, dated and a bit tedious. (Only my interpretation ) Yet I can look at a old Mk2 Escort and find it deeply desirable. Desirability and a car's character run hand in hand and are different for each of us. I think personally if I had an '80's aircooled 911 in the garage I could glean a lot of satisfaction from the lingering "apres-blat" lookback as the car pinged it's way cool nestled in my garage after a good hooning... Justifying a car in purely unemotive terms is the preserve of the non-car-enthusiast often otherwise known simply as the wife... Quote
hilux Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Just dropping by and noticed that 944/968`s keep cropping up as options. I had a 944 Turbo with `mild boost enhancement`, KWV3 and Weltmeister ARB`s and it was sublime up to the limit and beyond. In my view a better car and far more tuneable than the 6 speed 968 and will see over 300bhp of completely reliable power for not a lot of money with much reduced lag. In my view a nicer car to drive than a 911 but nothing launches earlier out of a corner than a 911 911`s are superb but will ultimately bite as you hedge backwards especially with a nearly empty fuel tank but the 944`s are as cheap as chips and the 911`s arent Anything aircooled with CS, RS etc is rising in value Quote
nikpro Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 You live once, money is only money - you can't take it with you. Live life in debt - die in profit! Get it bought - if it's to expensive sell it on. Good decision Quote
