Pistol Pete Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 so really is a mint example. It may need a top end rebuild {valves / guides etc etc} Love the irony of those two statements But know what you mean, good luck if you go ahead. Quote
carpetstu Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Sachs clutch for the Boxster cost me £300 (parts only) Quote
RedditchJay Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 so really is a mint example. It may need a top end rebuild {valves / guides etc etc} Love the irony of those two statements But know what you mean, good luck if you go ahead. its double edged.... the car has 101,000 miles but only 3 owners {1989 on the F reg}, has full service history every year or 5000 miles..... drives like a 40,000 mile car and looks 100% correct, BUT the weak point on these air cooled engine is the valves / guides..... once done it will last forever..... just working out the money and thinking do I really want the car.... do i want the expenses of £3k - £5k for an engine rebuild.... BUT i am getting the car at a very good price..... will be speaking to some more Porsche people tomorrow Quote
cast iron Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Red Line Racing These boys know their onions, theyve won a few rounds of the Porsche GT3 cup a few times Quote
Terry Everall Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Strasse in Leeds are very helpful and seem reasonably priced Quote
RedditchJay Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 Still looking at hunting around, most saying similar prices....... ;-) Looks like I will get the car pending agreement on monies and last few details..... will post up some pictures once the deal is done........ Quote
BEN99W Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I've no wish to teach sucking of eggs, but a porsche 911 is an expensive supercar with running costs to match. It's not like a westfield made from bits of old fords. Owning a 911 is a nice scratch to itch, but not something that you can cut corners on with regards to running costs. If you're baulking at the cost already then you need to ask yourself if your wallet can take the strain. One of the reasons I still own my westy and haven't moved onto something else is that nothing else offers anything like the performance to running cost ratio. Yeah I've spent loads on mine, but it's been when I have the cash and feel the urge to upgrade, not because the car has demanded it. On the other hand, you've gotta spend your money on something and you ain't gonna blow anyone away in the Landy... Quote
RedditchJay Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 hahaha your right BEN99W...... the landy is soooo slow.... except in the snow when everyone wants one.. lol my issue is I want a good, fun, fast {ish} 4 seater with some sytle, not a modern plastic fantastic.......... I sold my stunning Westy and have thought ever since SHOULD i have sold her.... after driving this Porsche for a few hundred miles the answer is YES..... right choice for where we are in our lives at the moment.... would have another Westy tomorrow if it was more family friendly.... John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 If it aint broke why fix it? If it drives OK then leave it as is Quote
markcoopers Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Jay, you will also need to think about the upkeep of other areas for resale considerations. The interiors will need to be kept up to spec and the oil drips from the heads will be a constant one to fix. Tyres are not cheap .....etc. If you spend on it and keep it sound, then a resell will not be an issue, but Sam's advice on the likely costs is worth taking, he does have shall we say considerable experience in this area. I was in the exact same situation recently, and did look at both older 911's and the 996's but plumbed for an e36 M3 vert instead. Fun, fast (ish) 4 seats nd a classic as well Quote
RedditchJay Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 I know Mark and its one of those.... do i dont i........... looking lik 99% i will and try it for a few years as a summer play car. Taking SWMBO and the little out in it on Sunday to get a view of the biger picture and just check we are all on board with this purchase becase for the money I could be a very nice, much newer Porsche 911 with less issues but also less character....... markcoopers Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I hear you fella. I was dredding them all hating my M3 when we went out for the first time....and it did not start well either. Wife thought it slow and the bushing that needs doing was clonking well.. But with the sun out, the roof down and the motor warm we opend the taps and had a quick tinkle on the valve springs. The wife let out a "whee" of fun and the littlest boy declared it "Awsome daddy, awsome." Job done i think. Quote

Wasn't sure it was right at first but the other half is very please not to be getting cold any more. Number one son who doesn't like cars turn round and said its a beast much to my disbelief Quote
RedditchJay Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 just come back from a very hard blat..... pushed the car hard and O MY GOD.. its on rails...... and with 250 horses not far off how the Westy felt with 170 of Troy's horses..... will do the deal on Monday and confirm the purchase.... then post up some tasty pics......
