Ditto the above. I've also just joined and would appreciate being able to contact some sellers, sooner rather than later.

Crikey!

Sign of the times I suppose - the people/person who sorts out the Club membership does it FOC; it is a nightmare of a responsibility as are any of the admin. Roles within the Club.

Give these people a break - no body makes money out of the WSCC - they do it out of kindness.

Don't expect things to arrive the day after  - it all takes some considerable time - when the person responsible has some spare time themselves and decides to devote it to us.

.........and no, IMO non members shouldn't be able to reply to 'cars for sale'. Membership costs almost nothing - if your not prepared to pay then you don't get the benefit - even if you don't own a Westfield (as many members don't) it's still a good Forum to visit for ~£2/month. (If you can't afford that why are you looking at a Kit car to buy!)

If members want to be contacted by non-members they have the option of posting contact details/advertising elsewhere.

(apparently www.freeloaders.com is a good site  ;) )

I haven't seen a phone number or email address on a car for sale advert for a long time.

Does September 2011 count as a long time then :D

You get my point - the majority of adverts don't have direct contact details, which I only see as a disservice to the sellers as I'm sure the forum gets a lot of non-member traffic.

If im interested in a car I would never send an email if there was a phone number on the ad, you get a much better feel for a car talking to the owner or imho you do  :t-up:

and ref to advertising on here if a man wants his car to go to a member then leave off the phone number by all means  but you are reducing your chances of finding a buyer  ??? there will be a lot of lurkers like Lord Benny that are looking to buy a car and a lot will be impulsive with money burning a hole and wont want to wait 4 weeks or whatever it takes to register to be allowed to post  ???

fwiw I get loads of emails from people on cars  and I would say 50% come to nothing after I take the time to reply :bangshead:  :bangshead: I always think that the man that calls you up is more interested than a bloke typing on a key board     ???

and remember that when you sign up to the boardroom - there are a brief set of rules to which you agree to when registering - if a short while later you can't remember these - don't blame admin  :)  :)  :(

If someone has something for sale they would like to offer to non-members then it is very easy for the seller to provide any contact details they freely wish.  :)

I happen to think that a couple of months on a forum before buying a "specialist" car is worth it.  That's when you build up a picture of the best spec to suit your needs and get a feel for a good buy and an overpriced one.  It usually costs less than one of those pointless buyers guides anyway.  At different times I've been paid up members of the midget and sprite club, cobra forum, marcos forum, vx220 forum and 2cv club...and I certainly haven't owned all of those!

I can understand why you might prevent people using popular sections of the board until they're paid up.  I'm sure the membership fees barely cover the admin costs and it is a small price to pay.

What I don't understand is the inordinate length of time you have to wait for a number.  I'm sorry to question this point but it seems a little silly to expect paying members to wait however many days under the facade that it somehow takes too long to email the next number in a sequence (?) when the rate of new members cannot honestly be that overwhelming.

Anyway, I realise this is an age old argument so I'm resigned to the wait hoping that my odd dig doesn't cause my application to find it's way to the bottom of the pile

I didn't really want to turn this into a volunteer bashing - that wasn't the intention and somewhat misses the point of my comments.  There is a good reason why the membership processing takes time, and that isn't at issue here.

What I don't understand is that before anyone is "forced" to sign up, there are sections aimed at Newbies who may have Frequently Asked Questions. The important issues surrounding membership sign ups and how they are handled have been pinned to the top of both sections.

There are FLASHING BANNERS that state during the sign up process that it may (MAY. Not WILL, MAY. It MAY) take up to 28 days to process the membership (it MAY take longer), and that same 28 day warning appears AT LEAST 3 or four more times before anyone is "forced" to press the button to complete the transaction.

It is NOT as simple as e-mailing out the next number in sequence from an XL Spreadsheet. If it was would we be having this conversation? I suspect not.

If sellers don't put contact details on their ads, maybe they don't want to sell to non members. If they do, there would be contact details, or ads on Pistonheads, Autotrader, Exchange and Mart or any of the thousands of other FREE websites where cars can be bought and sold.

And to answer the original post by Lord Benny:

No where does it say that I cant post on here, it just says that i cant post adverts.

Wanted ads must be in the Wanted Ads section. Your posts have been Wanted ads in the wrong section. They were removed in accordance with the rules. We often do not inform individuals that we remove posts that are obvious breaches of the rules. If we did, we'd NEVER get around to doing much else, 'cos there are plenty most days.

At the end of the day, if the rules are not to your liking or the time it takes for membership status to be updated is taking too long we will happily refund anyones money. Please email (EMAIL, NOT PM) either myself or the Membership Secretary and we will refund you via Paypal. If you do want to be a member, then all we ask is a little patience. As a non member there is still access to the vast majority of this site, just not the Members ads bit of it. You pays yer money (or not) and you takes yer choice. But whichever is chosen, please try to abide by the rules.
