Boombang Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Hi all, not a question about Westy's but figure there must be some very relevant knowledge on here I can tap. I'm very tempted with a particular Citroen Saxo race car that was build between 2005 and 2007. I would ideally like to get it road registered with MOT to drive to trackdays over the next year, rather than hassle of having to get a tow car. It does have a VIN (stamped in two places on shell and plate under bonnet). The owner also took it for an MOT a year ago, just to have the car fully checked over, and it passed although obviously not recorded - it has all original road legal car features such as lights etc. Done a quick google and applied for a V55/5 (as suggested HERE) but as the form is not downloadable I've no idea how hard this may be. It says I need to include when sending off: - a current certificate of motor insurance - the cost of the vehicle licence excise duty (car tax) Two main things come to mind. 1. How the hell do I insure a car without it being registered? 2. How do I work out the road tax? Does it get issued with a registration appropriate to the age of the shell as on the VIN, or do I have to do it on the new CO2 system (as I suspect) - that makes it Band G according to manufacturers stats so £165, but previously that would have been £155. I have checked the DVLA tax page, but when you go into 'new unregistered with DVLA' there is no option to choose this particular car - guess is because they no longer make or sell them! It the also says you need: - any documents you have relating to the vehicle (none!) - MOT if required (can't MOT as no reg!) - evidence of type approval, individual approval scheme (IVA), single vehicle approval (SVA), enhanced SVA or motorcycle SVA (sure is type approved, not sure if I need?) - declaration of newness (if applicable) (probably not applicable?) - appropriate HM Revenue and Customs form (again probably not applicable?) Finally, as it is/was a normal road car do I need any kind of vehicle check or does it just go through? If they do inspect, will there be any issues with it being modified? Anyone help or info is very welcome. Quote
samcooke Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 QUOTE 1. How the hell do I insure a car without it being registered? On the chassis number. It's how folk insure their Westfields to drive them to IVA. QUOTE 2. How do I work out the road tax? Does it get issued with a registration appropriate to the age of the shell as on the VIN, or do I have to do it on the new CO2 system (as I suspect) It will be based on the year of manufacture. QUOTE - MOT if required (can't MOT as no reg!) It can be MoTd on the chassis number, no reg necessary. QUOTE - evidence of type approval, individual approval scheme (IVA), single vehicle approval (SVA), enhanced SVA or motorcycle SVA (sure is type approved, not sure if I need?) A Certificate of Conformity will be available from Citroen. Ring their customer services. QUOTE - declaration of newness (if applicable) (probably not applicable?) - appropriate HM Revenue and Customs form (again probably not applicable?) Correct, neither applicable. Have you HPId the chassis number to make sure it hasn't previously been registered on the road? Quote
SteveD Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 just apply for a v5 with the form ,no need to insure it or anything ,just pay the fee and fill in the form im sure it has not been a race car from new and would of had a v5 origonally so should be available now unless its been a cat b then repaired and used as a race car Quote
Boombang Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 Thanks for the reply, sounds like it could be a lot easier than I thought. I've been assured the car has never been on the road and was straight from factory to the race track. Obviously my life would be a lot easier if it was once a road car! Worth nothing that the current V62 required a registration number to apply for a V5. Quote
SteveD Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 get the chassis number and hpi it ,that will give you the registration number if it has ever had one ,i find it hard to believe it has never had one and went straight on the track Quote
Boombang Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 Will do that, also will show if it was road registered and written off! Do you know though which variety of checks will let you search from the VIN rather than the vehicle registration? Quote
SteveD Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 if you pm me the chassis number il do the check for you tomorrow morning and let you know Quote
Boombang Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Thanks for the offer Steve, very kind. I cannot PM you though as not a member on here (just a user from when deciding whether to buy a VX220 or a Westy, and made the wrong choice). Can I email you instead? Quote
Boombang Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Thank you all for the info, really appreciate it. It is however based on a road shell and this is a misunderstanding with the seller. When he said it was not registered he meant in the current state. I now have a reg no which may raise it's own issues. Quote
SteveD Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 hpi'd it mate and its showing as a scrapped car , so no chance of a v5 ,steer well clear ,steve Quote
