chrisj02
Does anybody know where I can get some valve stem oil seals to suit double valve springs on a ford crossflow. The engine has just had a recent overhaul and the valve seals that where fitted have been shredded, seems they may have been only suitable for single valve springs. Any ideas. Thrustyjust
The standard valve seals which you get in the crossflow 'seal kit' are too wide for double valve springs.I had sierra cosworth seals put on mine and fitted perfectly without the inner spring picking the seal at spring compression.I can't remember if they fitted without mods to the valve guides, which IIRC were bronze with a couple of ridges on top to hold it on. scouse boy
You can use the stem seals from 8 valve VW golfs - they are much better than ford ones and are a slim design and fit neatly behind the double springs and they fit the valve stems quite easily - just knock them on carefully with a rubber mallet. They are much cheaper from an independant VW specialist - VW wanted about £3 each Autotechnics in Gillingham, Dorset charged about £8 for 8.
