SteveD Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 this still is not going to help the problems with ali tanks etc.... i know but its a warning about fuel lines not tanks ,they will go long before your tank, you can get your tank coated inside which will stop it affecting the tank Quote
smorse Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 apparently Gates sell SAE 30 R9 in the USA that is lined with Fluoroelastomer/ Nitrile that withstands the new modern unleaded which has alcohol additives thats causing all this perishing, surely we should bet to be able to get the same sought of hose in the UK or have Gates the global monopoly? Quote
smorse Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 to get it from gates in USA i would imagine is expensive, anyway I wonder if this is the stuff? link Quote
jeff oakley Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 If you go into any local motorfactors they can order it from FPS who are the gates wholesalers. I know we have it in stock. The downside for motorfactors is that it comes in rolls and is twice as expensive as the old style hose, so if you are only buying a meter they will have to buy 25. Quote
smorse Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 i wonder how many cars in the UK are running about with perishing fuel hoses in hot engine bays because of this alcohol unleaded fuel we're all having to use yet no-one from VOSA or the H & S brigade seems bothered to let us know?? get yourself some SAE 30R9 before your pride & joy goes up in flames gates info Quote

sparky21 Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Not that I would buy it from them anyway...... So have we come up with the best pipe to use and best place to source from yet? Cheers Quote

SteveD Posted December 31, 2011 Author Posted December 31, 2011 i have a former arriving in a month so i can make up plastic oem fuel lines ,that are pre shaped the only downside is they have to be custom made to the car as its all pre shaped before fitment Quote
sparky21 Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 thats fair enough, but at least you'll only have to do it the once as am guessing they will last a very long time? Best thing to do would be to take off and post the pipes you need made up so they can make exact replica's... Quote
nickw2000 Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 would anyone recomend nitrile rubber fuel hoses rather than braided ? Quote
smorse Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 at least with unbraided you can see if the rubber underneath is perishing Quote
Gromit Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Have a look here, although this is only SAE J30 R6 spec, Holden vintage and classic. Quote
