Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Formally known as Iv heard so horror stories but my next neighbour brought a car and had it for years with no problems So would buy a car from them?? Quote
Dibby Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Like with any car you buy you don't know the history of, you could get a lemon or a trusty steed. You can't judge a car warehouse by cherry-picking stories of individual cars. Mine's an ex-rep car with 180k on the clock and reliability-wise I can't fault it, had it 3 years, no advisories on MOTs, engine pulls like a train, no rattles or squeaks, never fails to start, doesn't smoke, it's a pleasure to turn the key knowing I'll get to work on time. Previous car was a similar age (2004 car) but only 40k on the clock and fell apart around my ears. It was built like Mr Potato Head and woudln't go more than 2 weeks without an electrical error and limp home mode. Individual cars can paint a very different pictures. Just typical my last 2 cars have fulfilled the German & Italian stereotypes Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 ^ Wot he said! In 2000 I bought 'as seen' a 1996 Mondeo TD Estate with 134,000 miles of ex company car miles on it. I needed to replace the heater fan resistor at something like 190,000 but it went on to 230,000 miles with never a failure bar that small item. A car hit it when parked which wrote it off. At that age and mileage full ashtrays might even do that! Luck of the draw if you don't know what to look for. Otherwise use your eyes and ears. Quote
adamnreeves Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 You can buy a good or bad car from anywhere. Its how they handle any problems that count, i.e. customer service. I bought a car from them once. The fuel warning light was illuminated so I asked the salesmen where the nearest fuel station was and also asked if it had enough to get there, "Of course it does Sir". Pulled out of the show room onto the dual carriage way and car spat out of fuel. I was not impressed!! I called them up from my mobile and gave the salesmen a right earful I can tell you. He sent someone else out with a gallon of fuel. Quote
JeffC Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 if the price is right and the car is right doesnt make any odds who you are buying it off Quote
Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Thanks guys...... Just got to convince the wife lol Quote
Dibby Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 If you do get any problems, the dealer will try his best to wriggle out of anything regardless of where you buy from. They're all as bad as each other IMO Quote
Dommo Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 My missus got her Fiesta from there a couple of years ago. I think it all depends on the salesman you get. Ours was pushy obviously, but not overly so. No problems, and they did all the work to the car that they said they would before it was delivered. They sell so many cars I guess there will be quite a few horror stories. Quote
