Mat Jackson Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Right, can't make up my mind so need some...... Car is currently aeroscreened and I have the following upgrades planned for winter: - carbon dash, - Comfy seats out and a set of Triton seats fitted. - Carbon fibre boot box panel At the same time I also want to sort the tunnel out, since the carpet has gone. The panels currently fitted aren't great, so my options are: - Remove the panels and replace with carbon fibre panels, both tunnel top and sides. - Remove the panels, replace with new Ali ones and get them powder coated. - Remove the panels and replace with new ones wrapped in 3m dinoc. - Remove the panels and replace with plastic look a like carbon fibre from Playskool (Not keen on this due to lack of rigidity and protection. So what should I do? CF is the pukka option but about two hundred quid more expensive - that's a new set of tires..... Answers on a postcard.... Quote
KugaWestie Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Does that mean you will have a vinyl covered dash to unload? First dibs to me please if you do Quote

Luke Algar Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 This is one of the occasions when I wish I'd listened to my father a little more, but he told me that the plastic actually has more strength than the equivalent in aluminium, I can't quote by how much as sadly I can't remember what he said. But as the man worked with plastic for more years than I care to remember and we panelled his car in this when we built it, i'd say he was right! :-D Quote
Mat Jackson Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Thanks Luke...... The cost of the plastic is so low it might be worth doing anyway, if I don't like it then I have only losta few quid..... Quote
Rory's Dad Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I spray painted the inside of my Westy matt black - looks good but the masking up was a nightmare. I replaced the top of the transmission panel with an A3 sheet from Carbon Mods split in two which was enough to do the back bit that slopes up and the next bit from the bend up to my gear lever surround which is cut from a big bit of thick black perspex. I put some ply under the carbon fibre to stop me breaking it as I push up to get out of the car. All looks Rory's Dad Quote
Bananaman Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Thanks Luke...... The cost of the plastic is so low it might be worth doing anyway, if I don't like it then I have only losta few quid..... If you din't like it you could always cover it in 3M!!! Quote
