Bananaman Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Anybody know of any nice Pub/B&B/Hotels to stay in around the Peak District? A quality pub with good food would be ideal, somewhere around Matlock/Bakewell area.... Quote
stephenh Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The Peacock at Rowsley is very good, but quite pricey. Look at their website for more detail. There are lots of places which might suit you. Google is your friend! Quote
Bananaman Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 Thanks Stephen, that place looks really nice but they want 2 nights @ £155/night!!!! I've found another place now that looks good & gets great reviews..... Quote
jak Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The Devonshire does good food, although never stayed in hotel. John Quote
stephenh Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The Izaak Walton? Is that the one at Dovedale? If so its a bit south of where Banana is looking. Sure there must be suitable places around Bakewell or Matlock. Just that I dont know them. I'd Google both town s, and look for accomodation, then look at the websites of any likely looking ones. uk89camaro Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The Devonshire does good food, although never stayed in hotel. John all the pub hotels on the Chatsworth estate are fully booked, I've tried. The one quoted in this post wanted £99 per person per night. Quote
BobS Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Monsal Head hotel is in a lovely spot just outside Bakewell. Was very nice when I stayed there for a few years ago - good beer, good food, good views. Do some research though as its been a while since I was there. http://www.monsalhead.com/Monsal_Tariff.pdf Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 It maybe a bit further north than where you're looking but I've camped behind the Travellers Rest near Hope many times. I've never stayed in their rooms but the pub food has always been good. Several of my friends also use The Castle in Castleton. Again I haven't actually stayed there myself but food and drink was always good when out walking. Castleton is well placed for walking up to Hollins Cross and Mam Tor as well as the nearby mines and caverns. I used to spend a fair few summers around the Hope Valley and Millstone Edge for walking and climbing and love the scenery it offers. Quote
