Just received this - you would have thought they would have bothered to change the typeface to make it look like they hadn't just cut and past my name onto the standard letter....

Dear JEREMY HUNTER,

I am Omar Ismail Hazman,barrister at law.I saw your contact and profile and decided that you could cooperate with me in this proposition. I have a client who died as a result of heart-related condition in November, 2008, in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

I am contacting you because you have the same surname as my deceased client and I felt you could assist me in the distribution of money left behind by my client before it is confiscated or declared unserviceable by the bank where  this deposit valued at US$10.5million is lodged.

This bank has issued me a notice to contact the next of k*n,or the account will be confiscated. My proposition to you is to seek your consent to present  you as the next-of-k*n and beneficiary of my late client,since you have the same last name, so that the proceeds of this account can be paid to you. Then we can share the amount on a mutually agreed-upon percentage of 60% to me and 40% to your kind self.

All legal documents to back up your claim as my client's next of k*n will be secured gradually and forwarded to you. All I require is your honest cooperation to enable us see this transaction through.This will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law.

Another scam is the "Windows Support Centre" people calling you up to tell you have "errors" on your computer.

Half the errors they are referring to in your event log is just your internet connection going down briefly!!!

Its now a challenge for us IT people to see how long we can keep these people on the phone for before they tell you to f**k off and hang up... - Yes they do swear at you and threaten you with all sorts of action lol.

So if you get called by one of these frauds, tell them you are running Linux or have a Mac or hang up... Asking them "which computer are you referring to" will probably cause them to hang up on you.

and they have the cheek to charge 200 quid for a license for a piece of software that will probably cause more problems than actually speed it up.

I have also had another email in the last 24 hours from HMRC (allegedy) requiring my bank details so they can give me one of the tax refunds recently in the news.......suspect that would result in an outward rateht than inward movement of money

Just watch out for the scam to change to getting money out of Libia.

Best one I've had was 'from' the FBI.  Telling me someone had tried to transfer a shedload of cash into my bank account but they had intercepted it 'cos they thought it might be terrorism related.  Of course all I had to do was let them know all my details then they would release it to me.
