mark.anson Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I urgently need the assistance of the westfield masses particularly the plumbers/heating engineers out there. My ninty one year old nans boiler is broken and the part required seems to now obsolete. She really needs a new boiler and she could afford one too, but she really wouldnt cope with the disruption of having workmen pulling her house to bits fitting the new one. The boiler and part needed is a Potterton Netaheat 10-16 Mark 1 boiler. The part is a Mercury vapour valve part number 404451 . If anyone has one or knows who does please PM me. Mark Quote
peterg Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Mark, a quick Google shows this part was obsolete a few years ago and would have cost £300 back in 2009 if you could find one then.... Surely a new boiler wouldn't require pulling the house to bits, just a day's work in the kitchen or wherever the boiler is? Good luck though, my Mum's almost that age and can be tricky to persuade what's best for her.... Quote

If it was just the boiler Pete it would be a problem but could be sorted, however the plumber says that the rest of the piping may also need replacing as its 40 years old and could possibly leak if put under the pressure of a new modern boiler. The plumber is known to us, so isnt trying it on he just giving the worse case senario. I fear you maybe right Pete but talking her into it is another matter ! Quote
DerekJ Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Try a pressure test on the piping if you can get a pump. If it stands 1.5 times the normal mains pressure then it will last for a lot of years. DJ Quote
windy Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Send her on holiday (a cruise or something) then get a new boiler and pipes fitted whilst she is away. Nice cosy house to come home to when its snowing in a couple of weeks time. Quote

She really needs a home help but shes as stubborn as a mule and won't have one. Looks like it a new boiler this time though. Quote
RedditchJay Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 have you contacted the original manufacture? Quote
