SteveD Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 To be fair though, my cousin has a 58 plate Renault Traffic 1.9 sport with 6 speed box and he swears by it my pal had a few and he swears at them Quote
JeffC Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 a quick research on sizes shows that a Lwb transporter is similar size to mwb transit, tranny is a bit wider between the wheel arches which would prob swing it for me for loading, so has anyone got a mwb low roof transit they want to sell Quote
SteveD Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 yup swb transit prides itself on being able to fit a 8 x 4 plaster board flat on the floor Quote
JeffC Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 are transits fwd and rwd and is that why some are 2.2 and others 2.4 Quote
SteveD Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 are transits fwd and rwd and is that why some are 2.2 and others 2.4 you can get both wuv Quote
sweet orange Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Has no one mentioned the Toyota Hiace? I run the 120bhp lwb 300 version, have done for the last 2 years. Plenty of room and good on fuel, but most of all it starts everytime... Unlike my last van... 06 Volksw**ker Transporter. Dont get me started on this I had it from new , the 2.5 130 4motion, to cut a long story short, it it was the worst thing i have ever had and nearly put me out of business the time it spent at the dealers. and you can only take them to Volksw**ker van centres... the closest at the time was about 30 miles away. Go Toyota, if its not too late Quote
JeffC Posted October 20, 2011 Author Posted October 20, 2011 never thought of a toyota, I normally associate those vans with the chaps down at the market and the corner shop Quote

oioi Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 whats the max towing weight of these vans? i may in the future need to tow approx 3500kg? Quote
sweet orange Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 whats the max towing weight of these vans? i may in the future need to tow approx 3500kg? The Hiace will tow 2000kg (thats including the trailer remember) which is is about 1250kg payload on my trailer. No medium van i am aware of will leagally tow 3500kg (i would be happy for someone to correct me on that as it would be good for me to tow a bit more.) 3500kg is Landrover stuff.. maybe bigger twin wheeled transits? See my toyota in action on warwickshire facebook pictures assisting Trever and Dans MK. at Curborough. Quote
simon besant Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I am on my third vito now my last one was an 04 plate 115cdi which was chipped to 180 HP was a fantastic van . Agree the bodywork was a little prone to stone chips and rust but loved to drive it. And it was quick round curborough Got the new shape v6 122 cdi now which has a power box on it boosting it to 270 hp and it is very quick just over severn seconds to 60 with nearly a tonne in the back. Still returns late 30s to early 40s on a long run Not so good on short runs but still only has 10000 miles on the clock so still not loosened up fully yet. I know the be transporters suffer with particle filters breaking down and do not like power upgrades. Drive all the vans its a personal preference. Oh buy the way yes the Mercs are expensive but I did get 5years of free services with it Will stand up for the vito love mine like a car to drive. Quote
housebeautician Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Got a mwb medium roof transit, 90 horses, tows fine if you ain't in a hurry. Mines boxed in inside and is about 4 foot 2 inches in between rear arches. Clutches can be a pain, along with the pumps but generally a good workhorse. Most of mine is motorway and get, if i'm gentle 350-400 miles to a tank and 300 if the boot goes down. So not the best fuel wise. I have heard that the newer ones are better mind. But it all depends on what rows your boat. Quote
