Weather proof gear

Lads and ladies,

On my Westfield I have got the chrome roll over bar. This obviously means that I cannot put up the roof when wet as it hasnt got the fittings of the orifional roll-over bar.

I have still got the origional one and I am thinking of fitting this so that I can do a road trip next year and not worry about drowning.

The Mrs has just pointed out that the current roll over bar would most likely do nothing if the car was to flip over and skid along the road (i hope this never happens)! So I was therefore wondering if the RAC rollover bar or something similar could be used along with the wet weather gear?

Is this possible?

Thanks

I think you can use the hood with the RAC bar...

However it's a nightmare driving with the hood up so you'd be better off buying some motorcycle wet suits...

P.S. Fit an RAC bar anyway as you nver know!

+1 for ditching the hood and using bike gear.

The std hood IME is fairly ineffectual, noisy, poorly fitting and does nothing at all to enhance rearwards vision particularly 3/4 vision.....

The half hoods as discussed recently on here in conjunction with side doors look to be a better compromise for ease of use/practicality combined with some semblance of wet weather protection/sunshade.....

Just my opinion...

thanks guys,

Do I have to worry about the leather seats getting soaked and the interior at all or will this be okay if I just dry it out after use???

Thanks

You dont want to get the seats wet escp leather .

I have a tonnue cover as well as full hood .

tonnue used for light rain showers it is zipped so one half covers unused passenger seat

T'other half (drivers side )  I sit on , acts as a waterproof seat cover .

The other most useful piece of kit is a large brolly of the golfing kind , pull over somewhere handy , pop the brolly up , complete weather protection .

I  use the full weather hood if its persisting down , also keeps you warm , if you have a heater fitted that is  :t-up:

Just done this on mine. Was going to Nurburgring so wanted the hood on with the RAC bar in case it tipped it down.

Westfield sell a small extension bracket with a slot in it which allows the hood frame to be 'lifted' over the roll bar before it drops back down once over. They also sell small L brackets which fix to the chassis beneath the roll bar footplate therefore allowing your chrome rollbar to stay on the car.

Let me know if you need some pictures to help explain and I'll post some on here.

Hoods are a pain in the bum to fit and never work that well............

Having upgraded myself last year to a Playskool MSA approved bar my next step would have been to get a half hood made, if you do a google search for soft bits for seven you will see what we mean........

I also had two sets of waterproofs as much easier then messing with the hood which

a} leaks

b} takes 20mins in the rain to fit

c} the press studs come undone at speed

d} the inside gets to hot

e} try getting in the car with the hood on....... its an art form

and so the list goes on..............

HALF HOOD is the future......  Hope this helps

thanks redditch jay,

I think trying to get in with the hood up when im 6ft 5" would be very difficult and too many people will be aughing at me so wouldnt be worth it! aha

Can anybody point me in the direction of good after market roll over bars. Something not too pricy but good for both road and track?

Thanks lads

Hi Dan.

To be clear, if you're keeping the standard chrome bar you won't need the slotted brackets, just the L brakets which need fixing to the chassis beneath the footplate of the rollbar. Westfield only had one old bracket kicking about the parts department when I rang so they sent me that to use as a template to make my own. All it is is an L bracket made of flat bar approx 3mm thick,13mm wide and 90mm x 40mm long with a 5mm hole in the 40mm end which is rounded off. The 90mm length fixes to your chassis with two tapped fixings which you drill and tap yourself. Apparently pre 2000 chassis had the frame lugs on the roll bar. Post 2000 have them as part of the chassis. Again let me know if you need some pics posting.

I'm 6'3" and I manage OK...having said that my plan is to get a half hood so I don't need the hood frame on the car as I don't like the look of it on the back end. I keep thinking of ways to cut the frame up to make it collapsable like tent poles. I'm sure it can be done quite easily using pressed in ferrules or outer sleeves where it's been cut, even trapping elastic inside to keep it together if necessary then there's no danger of losing any bits of it. ???
