davidgh Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Young second hand. Needs to be reliable and reasonably economical. Attracted to far eastern JD Power scores and long warranty. Seven seats not a "must have", but would be a bonus. Short list is: X-Trail Sorento Sportage (new shape) Santa Fe Any experience (good or bad)? Any other ideas? Quote
peterg Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Honda CRV not on the list, any reason why David? Quote
davidgh Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Probably thought it would be too expensive, Peter. We'll look into it. Quote
funbobby Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Our tow barge is an S Max - Economical for its size and seven versatile seats. Nice to drive as well. Just going off your list though I would choose the Santa Fe. I know a couple of people who have them and they are very good indeed in every aspect. Quote
frag68 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 My father swore by Suzuki Vitaras and had 4 or 5 and his last one was the new shape 1.9 td, which I kept for a couple of months after he died and it was a super car. If I hadnt bought a new car just before he passed away, I would have kept it. Not too bad on fuel and had a switchable low box with diff locks. Might even be cheaper than the x-trail etc. Fraser Quote
RichP Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Have had lots of x-trails as company cars and think they're pretty good. The change to the 2.0D Renault engine was a big improvement over the 2.2 Nissan engine a few years back. I currently have a 2011 2.0D with the 173bhp engine and am very happy with it. Returns 40mpg without too much effort, goes well enough not to be frustrating and is quiet, comfortable and very spacious with the expected nice toys. You should find plenty of high spec 1yr old cars on the dealer used car market as we change them yearly. Quote
Arm Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 When we looked to replace the Toyota the Santa Fe was looking good. Drove better than any of the others and had a good towing capacity. Quote
davidgh Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Many thanks, Gentlemen -- useful input. Further experience still gratefully received. Quote

John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Actually - Ford Galaxy's are very good VFM. Nearly new ones arent as much as you would think Quote
cast iron Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 How could you miss out the 1.5 dci Qashqai. Me and my dad both have one, pull down a house and 55mpg Quote
juansolo Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 X-Trails do the job very nicely, are very reliable, practical and cheap to run. A bit characterless but as a functional car, very good indeed. Quote
