frag68 Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Nothing wrong with Pinto engines. I have just wished I had seen this one when I was looking for a replacement a few weeks ago. I have put another on in my car, purely as it was the cheapest and easiest option, otherwise I would have went VX Redtop, but there was far too much to change. As for the old block, well I am using it as an anchor for my boat, but with it on board its performance is severely restricted and I need 3 people to haul it on board. Fraser Quote

Bob Green Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 140bhp from a Pinto is not big beer as they are very capable of more. My old car was 172bhp and very drivable. Some of the Hot Rod guys were seeing 200+bhp. Whilst putting finger to keyboard, the jips and jives by calling the Pinto engine a boat anchor gives my a******e an earache. Yes it may be a little heavier the something costing £1,000’s more but reliability is build in for free. Quote

Yes it may be a little heavier the something costing £1,000’s more but reliability is build in for free. That was one of the reasons I went for the Pinto again. It meant no change to the bodywork, cooling etc and was cheap. My old engine had some cylinder head work done and running a big cam with 45s and was keeping up with the Zetecs etc. I dont have a great deal of skill when it comes to engine mechanics, so the Pinto or xflow was on my wish list when I was looking to buy one last year. The replacement engine I have just fitted has a mild road cam, but during the course of the winter I will get my original head stripped and reported, revalved and hopefully squeeze her above 180bhp. Long live the Pinto Quote
Bob Green Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 By the way, my last car had an engine based on the Pinto. Quote
