Oh, I'm all in favour of that law, but also in favour of appropriate enforcement of it where applicable. Prolonged conversation while driving? Bad. Picking up the phone while driving and a 10-second call saying you can't talk and will call back later? Depends on the circumstances. Talking with engine running while parked away from the road in a lay-by or parking space?  No, that would be preposterous.

Unlucky Steve.  That’s 3 points you do not need.  I will not take the p**s or anything like, as you will one day be re-spraying my Mini (yes…….. the one with the ‘A’ series engine).

Having said that, we all know what is required (or not, as the case may be) but using a mobile telephone whilst driving is not being law abiding.

God above.  I have just realised the cost of my re-spray has just increased by £60.

:D  :D  :D  :D  :D

My thoughts (as always) are with you.

Whats always puzzled me is, it is illegal to use a phone whilst driving, you can be done for eating a butty or drinking from a can ect, but its not illegal to have a fag (the smokey kind) while your driving.

Surely this would fall under the same as eating or drinking?

There does seem to be little consistency across the board.

same as you can fiddle with a satnav without breaking any law...

I think you'll find they can do you for smoking and/or satnav if they consider that you are not in proper control of your vehicle.  An HGV driver friend of mine got a warning for driving with one elbow on the window sill and was advised it could be a non-endorsable £30 fine.

Kineck ! they'll be banning us from reading Sun while driving next  :sheep:

If you are sitting in the driving seat with the engine running then you are in control of the vehicle and it is illegal to use a mobile phone whilst in control of the vehicle. I don't think this is harsh. Otherwise where do you draw the line? I was only doing 5mph, 10mph... I was drunk out of my skull, yes engine was on and in gear but I had the clutch pedal depressed. Regarding speed limit signs, the speed is in force at the sign, look ahead and slow down to the respective speed at the sign and if you cannot slow down quick enough then you are travelling to fast in the first place.

Yes, sorry, but obvious really.
