Draining oil

Now we have that out of the way, let's get on to lesson 2: "draining the fuel tank"  ;)

I'm with Rich Hall on that one.  He asks why when he reads the newspaper obits in this country, everyone either dies "peacefully" or "suddenly", and says that if he's in a town where more people are dying "suddenly", he gets the hell out of that town.  But he also says he's pretty sure that if you light a match to see how much petrol is in your tank, you'll die "spectacularly".

I find the quickest way to drain the oil is to disconnect an oil feed pipe, put one end in an empty can and run the engine until all the oil is pumped out...much quicker than just undoing the sump plug and trusting to gravity.

Friend of mine had the main dealers replace the alternator of the works Trasit mini-bus, have to say leaving the pipe off drained the oil out nicely. So I guess it's an option. Only trouble was it turning the engine  into just one big lump of metal with no moving parts.

I drained my last one like this :D it's incredable how quck the stuff comes out when you accidently invert the engine :bangshead::bangshead:

:(  Em, and it's about the time this happens you remember when you thought it might be a good idea to paint the garage floor in case that happens.
