Draining oil

Recommended Posts

There's a guy recommending heating up your sump with a blow lamp to help drain all the oil out.  I don't think it's something I'd try... but then again what do I know?

What does anyone else think??

was it a joke or serious ??? usually a quick 5 to 10 mins drive around block is enough to warm things up to ease draining off  :)  ;)

Haha...that's priceless.

As said above, quick run in the car to warm up the oil does the trick nicely.

The modern ( thin ) oils still drain OK when cold

You could leave the catch tray under sump overnight if you want every last drip out  :t-up:

Here's a trick you can pass back to him - to make your light bulbs last longer, place them in the freezer overnight; the next day, remove them from the freezer and drop them directly into a pan of boiling water.  He'll be surprised by the results.

Though if anyone does plan on blow lamping their sump for an hour till it's cherry red, please don make the video of your exploits available on You Tube.    ;)
