v6westy Posted September 28, 2003 Posted September 28, 2003 Well I am one of the rare few who has a 2.8 V6 ford engine fitted. My natural progression is to the Cosworth V6, but will it fit ? I know the Cosworth uses exactly the same block but the heads do stick out quite a long way. Does anybody on here have a Cosworth V6 which they could measure ? I have an seiw which has around 22 inches of space across the front of the car. I also know that the Cosworth will bolt straight onto the type 9 gearbox that I currently have. If it doesn't fit then I will have to go down the specialised engine route which is going to cost around £4000. Has anybody used specialised engines and are they any good ? Anybody owned one of their 3.1, 3.2,3.5 or 3.6 conversions ? Another question for you, how to tell what diff I have fitted ? Many Thanks PaulH Quote
david.c Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 Hi Paul I too have a 2.8 V6 Ford lump in mine , and mine is only a narrow body. Don't know about the Cossie engine I'm afraid, but I dare say others will. However, I was told a little while back that it wouldn't be wise to go for more power as the Type 9 was on it's limits with regard to the torque the engine produces. As for the diff, are you after knowing the ratio or wether it's LSD? David Quote
PCHWesty Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 Hi David Thanks for the reply, I'm wanting to know if its an LSD, are u running and LSD ? Also do you have an experience of the specialised engine people ? If the cossie won't fit I'm very serious about going for the 3.2/3.5 conversion. How long have u had the 2.8 ? What do you think ? Thanks Paul Quote
david.c Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 Hi Paul I have owned the car for just over 2 years, and it's a 1995 SEi. I think the engine is great, it sounds fantastic, and I love the thump in the back in any gear. I know the very early history of the car, it was built by Steve Broughton of SBD Developments with a very potent 2.0 Vx engine and after winning the championship in his first year he stripped the racing bits and sold it on I don't know anything about the next couple of years and who put the V6 in, but the owner before me (who had it 2 years) bought it as it is now. It does have an LSD fitted, which is great fun for donuts, but very lively in the wet You can tell by jacking the rear wheels up and turning one wheel by hand. If the opposite wheel turns the same direction then you have an LSD. If it goes the opposite way you don't, unless you have a very fancy LSD (which I can't remember the name of now - but I dare say someone will be able to) ...........Blatters........where are you? As for the engine tuning........sorry mate........I don't have any experience of them. Cheers David Quote
Blatman Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 Fancy LSD = Quaife ATB, or AP Suretrak. IIRC, AP Suretraks are out of production..... Quote
windy Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 Are we talking DTM Cosworth V6 here or the "Boat Anchor" engine? Quote
PCHWesty Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Hi David, Bit of a strange question but where do you check the gear box oil ? Do you have to remove the carpet ? Many Thanks Paul Quote
david.c Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 I have a small removable panel at the end of the passenger footwell only I didn't know this before I put the engine and box back in and spilt loads on the garage floor in the process Cheers David Quote
