Wile E. Coyote
Wouldn't be without them - in fact never actually got round to taking them off the daily driver this year. Didn't encounter anything the car couldn't deal with. Huge difference to year before when I couldn't move it for two weeks due to sheet ice on the road. Liam
What are the wear characteristics in non snow conditions?
Wile E. Coyote
Surprisingly good - in fact I struggle to notice any wear difference to summer tyres. Don't do many miles though... BUT they are clearly not as grippy as summer tyres when the weather is warmer. Still delaying judgement though as there is admittedly a chance I've knackered their cold weather performance through temperature cycling, but never heard of this being a problem. Btw, they're great as well when it comes to generally crappy wet weather too as the water clearing capabilities are really quite astonishing. Will probably change them in spring but this year's weather and various other things taking my time meant they stayed on until the point where I thought, sod it, might as well leave them now. In the snow, when it comes to hills or stopping, they make my RWD car more confidence inspiring that Mrs Coyote's 4x4 on standard tyres... even hill starts on snow dispatched with ease. Don't overtake 5mph crawlers though, they don't like it at all. Must be dangerous to go faster than they are... Must stop now: sounding like winter tyre fanboy.

frag68
Do you think these would make my wife's 3 series move in the snowy conditions in the winter here in rural Lanarkshire? If so I am getting a set of 16inch alloys/steels and fitting a set, coz last year it was like a bar of soap in the bath. So much so my wife took my Caddy van and I was left with the Beemer. Not clever and need to do something.
blankczechbook
remember all weather tyres aren't winter tyres - they are a halfway house. - they can be used year round, winter tyres don't brake as well in hot conditions. 4mm tread is recommended on snow tyres - any less and their grip IS very reduced. - shame to use them year round if next winter you haven't got the depth so you're lacking grip again.. unless you are using up that last bit of tread in spring. M+S tyres on a 4x4 aren't winter tyres unless they have the snowflake/mountain symbol beside the M+S markings. they might be blocky - but won't have the softer rubber and tread of the winter tyres. i have all weather m+s on my disco - but they aren't full winter road tyres - in deep offroad snow then road winter tyres aren't quite blocky enough for the job. Yes (I also have a BM). Even sheet ice no problem.
Dibby
Another 3-series here and TBH I didn't get stuck last year ... ok I couldn't drive up the hill to my front door but dropped the car off on the main road so I could get to work every day. The roundabouts were hilarious fun with the traction control off, first time the wife has been donutting in the virgin snow in Tescos carpark Never really seen the need in the UK for winter tyres for the week or 2 they would come in useful, better off trading the car in for a 4x4 if I was serious about snow performance. Carl
Never really seen the point. With careful driving and route choice I've never had a problem on normal tyres Off course if it's that bad I stay at home
