Norman Verona Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 If I've read this right, the wonderful Beech tree in Halifax due to be cut down is due to the house owner in front of it complaining that the roots are disturbing his drains. This allows the council to destroy this wonderful aged tree. Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to re-route the drains? But probably not a solution in the rule book. Quote
SteveD Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 no because the roots will grow towards the new drains ,roots grow towards water Quote
Norman Verona Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 So why build the house there in the first place? The tree has probably been there over 200 years, the house maybe 60. Surely the drains can be routed far enough away to last another 60 years. By then the house will probably have fallen down anyway. Quote
thos Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Wow, a 'save the trees' post on a motoring forum. Good luck with that! Quote
pistonbroke Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 With todays technology they can very easily "line" the drains with a fiberglass sleeve which makes them impervious to tree root ingress , suprised if they hav'nt considered the option Quote
Mike H Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Didn't you see the Beeney program about the house and the trees? This couples garden had sunk around 18" due to the trees taking all the moisture out of the ground. This was basically causing the house to collapse. They took a load of trees out, the garden rose back up and the house righted itself. I thought is was pretty amazing. There are real reasons for watching Beeney TV other than the obvious. Mike Quote

Mike i watched that program....... the trees were far too big for the area they were planted..... but your right, pull out and prune back the trees and the houses started to correct itself Quote
