Speed Freak Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Hiya all, as the description says. Cant for the life of me remember if there are difference in tax categories??? Have a feeling there might be a difference in the emissions test tho...? Anything else to be noted? cheers Quote
markcoopers Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 I can not comment on the tax, but can say that Q is visible smoke only on the MOT. They do though often have to enter an engine year so that they can get the electronic system to work, but Q does make this very easy. Quote
SootySport Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Tax on Q's is £215 for 12months. Emissions as pre 2001 cars, usually just smoke, depends on the tester if he takes unburnt fuel into consideration. Quote
nikpro Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 A 'Q' plate makes emissions simple at MOT time but an age related plate can also be simple as well; Mine is registered on a 55 plate but states on the Log Book - 'made from parts all of which may not be new' I believe this reffers it back to a 'no smoke test' as well (Please note I'm not 100% clear on this - I'm sure an MOT expert can fully explain.) Mat Jackson Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Sorry, Q Plate doesn`t automatically mean "No SmoKe Test", it will depend on engine age. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 [blatman mode]do a search for the MOT emissions side of things [/blatman mode] This was discussed only recently; the MOT has changed, and is changing with more to come in 2012. It's not as simple for Q plate cars as was, all of us on Q's will need to be checking our V5's. If there are emissions figures on it - established at SVA/IVA time, then even on a Q those will become effective. There looks like quite a few more detail changes too, if the advisory poster on the wall of my local garage was anything to go by. (was reading it while having my MOT done last Friday) Quote
RedditchJay Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Most MOT stations don't quite understand the Q plate implications and will just run a smoke test........ mine didnt even do that, between each MOT was only approx 500miles so simple MOT......... inc a cup of tea and natter Quote
Captain Colonial Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Jay, I'm a little worried about your signature. QUOTE MISSING MY WESTY.... getting an inch... I'm hoping you meant to say "getting an itch...", instead of proclaiming that you're nursing a semi... Quote
Speed Freak Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 cheers for all the help. I'll be sure to find out all the ins and outs before I invest in my westy! By the looks of it tho a q plate would be beneficial, especially if the car is running an older engine like xe or similar. Quote
RedditchJay Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 MISSING MY WESTY.... getting an inch... I'm hoping you meant to say "getting an itch...", instead of proclaiming that you're nursing a semi... well.......... kinda both really.... the itch causes me to pay attention to the nether regions around that area and hence forth a semi is born just missing a "speed" toy..... the Caravan whilst is very nice and lush........ dosnt go very fast so...... have savings and will start shopping over the crappy winter months and see what 4 seater soft top {must have 4 seats for ankle muncher} I can find..... no rush... well...... before Easter next year will be nice..
