jerryhzx12 Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 So my Westie is on sale (wife can't get in and out of it anymore due to limited mobility), and I've just got rid of my old CLK. I have something boring and reliable for day to day use, but want an open top car for weekends. Needs to be accessible and comfy for her indoors with limited mobility, and something I can use to commute and is suitably secure to park. So it looks like a folding tin top. Budget anywhere 12-18K, only plan to do a few thousand miles a year Merc SL or SLK appeals...anyone any opinions (what, here ? ) ? My thoughs are either a 500 SL (or even better a 55 SL), or a 350 SLK (or even better a 55 SLK), but any experience or informed opinion gladly taken... Quote
Vinny's Westie Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Have a 55SLK and its soundtrack is excellent fun but for someone with mobility issues I would think an SL would be better. The reviews all say the 350SLK is better value but no soundtrack, and the 500SL is better than the AMG with the 350SL pretty pants. Not the best handling car, or the best feedback through the steering wheel but you can 'chew' your way throught the traffic with ease. About 21-22 mpg around town and around 26-28 on a run. HTH Quote
jerryhzx12 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 Good start thanks - pretty much my thoughts on the mobility thing - bit more luggage space with the SL too. Not expecting Westfiled style handling, but tend to drive fairly sedately with the boss on board anyway... Quote
