poltergeist666 Posted September 28, 2003 Posted September 28, 2003 Currently on a dash rebuild for my Westy, and I'm thinking of using Trillogy switches (the smart ally look ones). Could anybody please tell me if I'm going to have to use relays with any of the switches I intend to use. They are :- 1 Rear fogs 2 Front lights (dipped and main) 3 Wipers & washers 4 Hazards The toggle type switches I have in there at the moment, look like Lucas's best - heavy duty looking, although no amp rating marked on them. The Trillogy ones,so it seems, are rated at 10 amps. So,can anybody fore-see any problems in using these switches. A auto electrician I ain't,so any useful advice would be most welcome. Thanks in advance Jerry ********* UPDATE - I HAVE ADDED PICS BELOW - 6/12/2003 *********** Quote
david.c Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 If they are rated at 10 amp, then should be OK for all but the wipers. David Quote
poltergeist666 Posted October 1, 2003 Author Posted October 1, 2003 Many thanks David -I have ordered some up,and very sexy they will look too, when I get around to fitting them. ATB Jerry Quote
poltergeist666 Posted October 1, 2003 Author Posted October 1, 2003 I have ordered them from Mac1 Motorsports of Sheffield - as they want £15.99 inc Vat per switch, where as Demon Thieves want £17.20 exc. Mac1 can be contacted on 01142619633 (ask for Colin or Mark). The switches were ordered this Monday gone and should arrive this Saturday (hopefully). When I have finished the dash build,I will post some pics for those that are interested - It's starting to really look the biz! ATB Jerry Quote
Blatman Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 FWIW, I use a mixture of switch numbers 317-421, and 317-437, and a single 317-847 (for the indicators), from RS Components. Cheaper than both suppliers you've mentioned, and good quality parts, IMHO...... Quote
poltergeist666 Posted December 6, 2003 Author Posted December 6, 2003 It has taken longer than expected, (bet I'm not the only one to have said that, where a Westfield is concerned !!! ),but my interior re-trim is nearly finished. As promised,I have added some pics of the Trilogy Switches - they look like sexxxx! This is how the interior looked before I started. And,here's how it looks now. I'm well pleased with how it's turned out, and, although it doesn't really show in the photo,it looks well trick with the carbon fibre finish. ATB Jez Quote

mark.anson Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 Anyone know if these switches are SVA compatible? Quote
ACW Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 you will need some multipole relays to wire up the hazzard switch. and I would be tempted to use a relay for the main headlights. but otherwise I think they look really good. I have played with using a diode and a load resistor so that the backlight is dim with the lights but lights up when pressed in. Quote
Rob Navin Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 I have played with using a diode and a load resistor so that the backlight is dim with the lights but lights up when pressed in. Glad to hear the winter rebuild is in full swing the Ade. I take it you start the rest in April ? Quote
ACW Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 well you have to get these important proofs of concept done early in the development cycle.... but the rest starts in April. Quote
Danny Posted December 17, 2003 Posted December 17, 2003 Hiya You were saying that you have just fitted some new switches. They look great! Ive got the old toggle style ones and want to replace them. Did you have any problems fitting them. With the lights maybe having a double click switch-excuse the terminology! Is it just a case of changing the connections. Also can I reposition the switches on the dash or do I have to leave them where they are now? - They are currently just scattered about Can I use them for : Rear Fog/Fan/Wipers/Lights/Indicators/Washers/Main Beam/Horn Any help would be greatly appreciated - And belive me I need help Cheers Quote
poltergeist666 Posted December 18, 2003 Author Posted December 18, 2003 I got a company called Ultimate In Car to wire the dash, and from what I can gather, they never had any problems, other than having to supplement some of the loom with relays, for the heavier load circuits.I arranged the switches in a completely different, and more logical order than the orginal layout,as they were spread all over the place. My switches cover the following functions. Sidelights Headlights Fullbeam Electric Fan Over-ride Wipers Washers Rear Fogs Hazards Engine Start. All the switches come with the correct legend on them, for that particular function. They may be expensive, but they really add that quality touch to the dash. Quote
