davidgh Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Doesn't anyone think that all the squeaky invective from McLaren would have been unnecessary had they got their gearing right for the pit straight. Lewis could have passed Schumi many times over into the first chicane had he had "the legs". Pure cant to cover pure c*ck-up! Quote
rocket_rabbit Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Thing is, they didn't expect Merc to be in the mix. Vettel was only geared to 322kmh and the Mc had 330. There are other parts of the track than the pit straight Quote
Dibby Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Some of these steward decisions are very fishy. Wonder if Hamilton vs Schumacher was the other way round and Hamilton had been on the one swerving across the track it would have been a drive-through, no questions asked. Something's starting to stink in F1. Quote

davidgh Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 There are other parts of the track than the pit straight Yes, but isn't that the most obvious overtake? (DRS, etc.) Still think it was poorly thought through.... ... and why have we now seen two Hamilton overtakes in two races that he couldn't finish off? Quote
Dibby Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Aye Pistonbroke, they were far from fair to Senna, anyone who opposed Schumacher, anyone who challenges a Ferrari, very reluctant to penalise Schumacher today. As a result, Hamilton's lost all his confidence. He started as a plucky, bolshy racer who would mix it with the big boys. Think his comments on camera after the race sum him up now: One word answers, toe the line, put up and shut up. Wouldn't surprise me if he jacks in the next year or 2 and only a matter of time until they turn on Button if he keeps doing well. I love watching Button when he gets the bit between his teeth, smooth, consistent, a masterclass in driving. Don' want to see his spirit eroded the way they've done with Hamilton Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Not sure if Hamilton's lost his confidence, so much as become distracted by the trappings of his previous F1 success. Combined with the loss/change in his father's key role he seems, almost like a growing up, child star actor, to be struggling to adjust. I can't help but think his apparent love for the lifestyle has also made him easier to control by the team compared to his earlier highly focussed "eyes on the prize" self. Quote
Dibby Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Loved his fresh , hungry attitude in his first couple of years. I'd agree he's getting more into the lifestyle with his douchebag beard, earrings, girlfriend and sunglasses. Hope he doesn't go down the Eddie Irvine route and becomes a playboy Brit also-ran. Hope he can turn it round, get his head down and concentrate on building consistent results for the rest of the year and come back fighting next season. I'd also agree with Button's comments about being No1 driver at McLaren, by far the more complete racer and patience pays for a lot with this year's tyres. Quote

Funny, you could of read my mind with the Eddie Irvine comment. I confess I'd almost written off Jensen after his initial promise, that oh, so long, dry spell without a win seemed to just show for all his talent, the lack of that extra something. Then it was like someone flipped a switch in his head, what a difference, and what a superb champion he's maturing into. Quote
