greenwood03 Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 gadgetman - no idea how/where your DS tank is located...my hoses run above my sump/skid plate, bu as a word of warning....the actual tank is in the nearside corner nearest the firewall.....last year i ran over a stone ( i assume ) that flicked off something under the car, and hit the lower fitting, it hit it so hard that it cracked the outlet ( ie/ where the outlet is welded to the tank ) and weeped, dont know how much more force would have been needed to have split that to the point where a weep was a flow........it was obviously a freak and unlikely to happen again, but worth a thoiught 'cos i'd assumed that the steps i'd taken to protect hoses would have been enough! Rob Navin Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I ran wide on a double lap of curborugh and did something similar to the owner. I was on slicks and dumped the majority of my oil over them I finished spinning just before the mole hill. I fitted the engine and dry sump sustem though lesson learnt. I wouldn't have wanted it to happen anywhere at the ring. Not sure or interested in where it will go or who is right and wrong. Just hope all concerned are OK Quote
Fat Albert Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I wonder which no win no fee ambulance chaser is representing going to make a fortune from this episode Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Lets be careful with this thread please, reading the article, the passenger suffered severe brain damage in the accident. Which I am sure none of us would like to have happen. It's for the courts to decide, not an internet forum. Quote
peterg Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 and ALL the threads regarding this case started on Blatchat have been removed by the L7CGB for the same reason Quote
SteveD Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 hard to judge without all the facts ,anything else is just speculation here i did say Quote

echoz Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Echoz - ' when he worked on the car' - why assume that a buyer of a brand new r500 would work on a car? no idea how much oil in general would spew out of split hose, i'd imagine that on a pumped dry sump system a fair bit ? or perhaps a cumulative effect of gradually coating the wheel (s). Under the wrong circs it doesnt take much to break contact with the tarmac even in a straightish line, as i found out when i missed spotting a bit of oil coming onto the straight at Brands and end up all over the place - caused by shifting gear and hitting the torque band. as regards to how much of the car was undamaged after the shunt and therefore what could be deduced in terms of causes/issues ahead of the 'off' - cant comment on this one, but how often is a car written off due to chassis damage with no visible damage/interference to the rear parts of the engine/transmission. anyway, the purpose of the 1st reply was to hopefully stop folks assuming that it was a yuppie ( does that word exist anymore ) muppet with little clue, little experience, because for sure that isnt/wasnt the case. Wasn't a personal dig bud, more just generating debate i didnt think of coating the wheels, valid point hope your friend is okay Quote
