Major

Having been to the ring 2 years ago(that me doing a bike round the long way or was it him doing me!! in my avatar)

Insurance will not be valid while at the ring unless you have specific track insurance (sure this will open a massive can of insurance quotes that will cover you but rule of thumb is normal english insurance companys dont cover you i spent a while looking in to this but risked it without )

Which brings me on to my next comment take your time when you are going round dont get all cocky and lose it hit the barrier you have to pay per meter to have it repaired pay for the tow truck to get you off and if you have a proper off and they have to close the track for a while they will charge you for lost income while the track is closed

If you have AA or something simialer check there small print when i went (AA)they had a 50km exclusion zone around the track for recovering you after people were having issues on the track getting there mates to tow them up the road push the car in the ditch ring the AA and then expect to get towed home

Dont go into the carousell one of the corners (not sure if thats the correct spelling)unless you can drive over speed humps over here with leaving any parts behind

I went round 3 or 4 times with the right hand indictor on only using 4th gear to get a feeling for the place it takes years to know the track and whats coming up ect and still had a good few first laps but without any issues but it was realy busy so i then waited till last thing before having a bit of a go

Just go and enjoy come home in one piece car and you and with the wallet intact

The idea was to attract other people to the region but this turned out to be flawed. The revenue projections never met their targets and the costs were a factor larger than they should have been due to corruption over contracts. End result is that the development went bust and the state has had to bail it out.

Mr Lidner of the hotel group is one of the people who is now involved with the running of the new company which also includes the 'old ring'

As I understand it Lindner was in the original group who persuaded the government (through visitor figures and projections which were somewhere between naive and criminal) to bankroll the development of the theme park and hotels and were the "brains" behind the building of the theme park/rollercoaster etc, so while it is a new company, it is the people directly to blame for predicament who are now in charge.

When are you heading back home it would be worth a visit to spa on the monday for the track day plenty of action to see the whole complex is open to see and it's free

Watch your mirrors as much as you can

Drive within your limits

Be prepared to be dusted by golf Gti/3 series BMWs with shed like appearance stripped out with roll cages...

Northloop.co.uk is your best help for specifics

Northloopers are good guys, see if you can arrange some passenger laps with some regulars

I've done around 300 laps 2008 to 2010, and just because you know which way the track goes doesn't help you as your speed increases the dynamics of the circuit are such that being off line by a foot can identify bumps, wheelie points or head shakes where you've never had them before (all my laps were on an 08 Blade)

But beware much as it's great crack while your out there, surreal and like living in a computer game, this place can bite...

I wrote off my new GSXR last year thanks to someone's fluid spill

You almost need "Spidey senses" to tell you when to cool it, as there is always another lap

If your interested in your times it's unlikely you will get a clear uninterrupted lap, look up "racechrono" it works out your optimum time...

Be courteous at speed on the track, be prepared to dodge spinning or flying or disintegrating vehicles, keep your scanners peeled !

It's a great place, nothing like it anywhere

In terms of daily flow I could do in an 8am till 715pm session anywhere from 11 to 24 laps, there are always closures during the day

It's best early morning 8am but misty/damp from end of august

Later in the evenings the sun can be blinding due to lack of leaves on the trees this time of year

Enjoy the experience

Oh for Europe wide recovery

ADAC plus

85euro you as the driver/rider of anything you own in. Europe, works a treat in the UK

RAC/AA are rip off merchants

In the UK, ADAC subbie their work to AA

ADAC can also get you off the ring for free but only if it's mechanical breakdown...

If you are staying at the burgstube, ask Martin to give you a briefing, top bloke!

Catching the Monday night North Sea Ferry from Zeebrugge. It's a 250 mile trip on the most direct routes so will check out how long it is to include Spa.

Thanks for the pointer.

There's 3 Westfields going and 1 Boxster...should be fun. :p

Also thanks to all the other postees (is that a word? :durr: ) for their advice and comments.

My biggest brain scratcher at the minute is whether or not to take out some specific track insurance. Obviously do not want a large bill for the track closures and repairs should the worst happen.  Once did a track day at Cadwell on my Ducati 996 and took a Ducati 1098 test bike out for a few laps. Had to sign the usual disclaimer and to cut a long story short, I binned it at the end of the straight doing over a ton. Total cost to me was the £500 I'd signed to which in the scheme of things, was very cheap.

I don't think anyboy offers insurance for thr ring unless it is a closed to the public full track day which are very rare and very expensive to do.

Have a read on the pistonheads trackday forum for more info.

Mr Ascroft. I've just noticed you've changed your pic on your posts. Sorry if you changed it some time ago. I struggle to look past your avatar :D  .....PS thanks for your advice again
