Suzuki G13BA Engine - Can it mate into Westfield

Hello,

Westfield recently appointed a dealer in India, am a big time fan of Westfields.

Presently the Indian Car senario isn't that flexible to self modded home made rides but still can find a way around that ;)

My major concern is I have a Suzuki G13BA 1300cc engine, i.e. I have the 1995 MSIL Esteem known as Swift in Europe. Was planning to buy a new car and sell this one but now since Westfield have made their presence in India I need to know can its engine be transplanted to westfield and which model is best for it. or will it require any serious mod job.

Regards and Thanks in advance

Welcome to the Boardroom  :)

The problem you'll have will be that the Suzuki Swift is front wheel drive so you will need to find someone to make a bellhousing to mate that engine to a rear wheel drive gearbox such as the Ford Type 9 or MT75 out of an old Ford Sierra...

Not sure if the Mazda MX5 has ever been sold in India but if it was an old rusty one of those would be a good base for a Westfield

I did know of a chap who was fitting a Swift GTI engine into a locost, IIRC he mated it to a Vitara gearbox and used a two piece propshaft.

So basically it requires lots of jumping conventional methods. If the construction cost is going to overshoot the driving pleasure I can look at the alternative of selling the ride and buy a new engine ( ofcourse which means complicating the registering process :p )

okay the Engines I can source are

1) The Isuzu 4FC1 is a 2.0L SOHC 8V engine with the MPFI version present in HM Contessa global Vaxhaul Victor this is Diesel

2) The 1.8L Isuzu 4ZB1 SOHC 8V engine Petrol

If you can recommend any engine Automotive Companies and Rides in India

Namaste Jasneet,

And welcome to the WSCC, nothing about Westfields you can't learn on here the wscc fountain of knowledge is vast and rich, and it is not a snooty site.

I am probably as excited about this - Westfields in India as you are.

Just looked at the Westfield website it just gives the dealers contact details - Gurgaon - cashing in on the F1 I would imagine.

I'd think either the kits would use running gear from Indian car stock or the kits would contain all required parts - as this option is already available over here.

Regarding using your Esteem as a donor might be tricky as you mentioned that the legalities of registering self builds is tricky in India, I also looked at this a while back.

Kit Cars in India

Also noticed from your profile you are in Chandigarh, a lovely part of India from my visits there.

GLAD :D

Yup I am in contact with the Westfield person basic kit is starting at around 3.5L especially for a person who was planning to transform the soul of Esteem into Westfield instead of buying a new i20/Swift.

Lets see what the Future holds, was planning to have it as a daily car. Even imagined the bolt on Fiber Roof and doors. Going through the tech specs and part details of the westfields.

I really hope to own a Westfield one Day.

As far as Esteem engine is concerned only hope I see now is to mate the engine to MSIL Gypsy Transmission ( Global: Suzuki Samurai ) they share the same engine ( esteem has it longitudinally and Gypsy has it in latitude position )

The GTi engine is a reasonably common engine for clubman type cars here in Australia using the Sierra or Vitara gearbox.

Not sure if the Esteems block is the same though.

No sir,

The GTI engine I believe is 16V engine the Esteem engine introduced in India back then was the 8V one. GTI never made it to India, Though the Engine mounting is more-or-less the same.

Won't Suzuki Samurai Gearbox work ( known as MSIL Gypsy here ). Vitara are rare in India and also steep.(they come as CBU's ) so sourcing its Gearbox could be difficult.
