currently have an I phone which i thought was pretty good but just got swmbo a HTC wildfire S which for internet speed is in a different league, hers will load a page up in 1/10th of the time it takes my i phone  :( , but im not keen on the size of it, my oldest son has just got a Htc desire which is bigger and again faster than my i phone.

Im going to get another contract for my other lad but think i might give him my i phone and i will get something else, before I leap in and get a  Desire is there anything else worth a look .  :suspect:  :suspect:  :suspect:  :suspect:

What iPhone do you have? There is a big difference in speed between the 3G, 3Gs and 4.

The 3 and 3GS are getting a bit slow now, and the 4 is a lot faster at loading apps and web pages.

If it was me I'd wait a little bit longer as the new iPhone is due soon (rumours are that it's due as early as next month).

Are you all on the same network? Network speed affects page loading speeds.

The Desire is getting a bit long in the tooth now, the Desire HD has a nice big screen and the Desire S replaces the boggo Desire. The HTC Evo coming out soon is supposed to be blindingly quick. Also the Samsung Galaxy S2 and Morola Atrix are nice phones too but it all depends what you want it for. iPhones are always nice to look at but the hardware inside isn't great for the money, nice, crisp screens but that's about it.

Get down the shops and give them a poke about, nobody can tell you this one phone fits all people and needs. What we like might not suit what you want to do with a phone. Do you want dual-core processing for running heavy applications? Just interested in surfing, email and calls? Do you play games on it? Using it as an MP3 player? Watching videos? Taking many photos? .... these are all the things you need to tell someone in a phone shop so you can find the best phone for you ... then go get one a lot cheaper off the net.

Purely from a users point of view and devoid of geek value :p , I'd like to add my vote for HTC Desire S.....Cheap as chips and b****y good for 95% of the stuff I need from  a phone... :t-up:

Sounds like an original iPhone 3G. If you like your iPhone (apart from the lack of speed) I would do as suggested above and hang around for the next iPhone, it will be running the new A5 processor that the iPad 2 used, and you will notice a massive difference between the speed of that and your iPhone 3G.

It should hopefully be getting announced sometime this month for release next month (If all of the web rumours are true)

I finally ditched my Nokia 6310i (which I miss...) for an HTC Desire S after spending weeks on the research. Didn't want an I-Phone 'cos I didn't want to be tied to i-tunes and not have Flash Player for web sites.

I make sure that all the "radios" are off unless I want to actually use them, and I'm getting 3 to 4 days "normal phone use" out of a single charge. And as a phone, it's actually pretty good. Sound quality is good and ring tones are mostly loud enough.

My phone is on Gingerbread (Android 2.3 I think) and after 3 weeks of ownership, I'm happy so far with pretty much everything, and I'm starting to get sucked in to downloading apps :0

It has it's foibles but no deal breakers, just new stuff to get used to...

HTC desire here and pretty happy with it.

However - a chap that works for me also has one, and his phone's web performance is in a completely different league to mine.  I'm on O2, he's on TMobile. I get a little "G" at the top of the screen, he gets a little "H" in most locations, which seems to make a huge difference to data transfer speeds.

So, as mentioned above, the carrier seems to be as important as the capability of the phone.
