john cruickshank Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 The 40s have no choke,I do have a problem starting from cold once it starts it is ok for the rest of the day.Any body had the same problem. The car has just been on rolling road. I did have the same prob before going on the R/rd Quote
harky Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Recently changed from webers to dellortos as my webers had seen better days. When I changed over to dellorto I had it rolling roaded and found out from the helpful r/r man that the dellorto was more sensitive to fuel pressure so this was changed to 3 bar and much to my delight it now starts first time everytime which is a first for me. If you have a pressure regulator give it a try. cheers Quote
david.c Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Do you have an electric fuel pump? If so, I find that switching on the ignition and allowing the fuel to get up to pressure, then give the accelerator pedal 1 full push and release, then turn the engine over. Even though mine has a 2.8 V6 with three twin choke downdraughts, this works everytime David Quote
Blatman Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Er...for the sake of clarity...... so this was changed to 3 bar I reckon that should be 3psi. 3bar is around 45psi, which is about what my fuel injection runs at. Cold starting is as per DavidC. A prod or two once the fuel pump has been running for a few seconds, and it should burst into life.......... Quote
harky Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 cough cough I stand corrected, every day is a school day. Quote

jtwonk Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 My car is the same 1700 xflow twin 40's & behave the same. Some days it will start OK with no choke & run relatively ok with the odd prod on the throttle & other days it needs a slight amount of choke . But as Dave says allow the fuel pressure to build up a few seconds ( on mine you can here as the fuel pressure builds up because the fuel pump slows down) then give 1 or 2 full pumps on the throttle & hey presto it will start Jonathan Quote
