Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Photoshop or similar and a couple of layers, the lower one converted to black and White, or some other monochrome shade if the fancy takes you, then create a mask the shape of the car to hide the full colour back ground in the upper layer. There are some excellent semi automated tools these days for making the mask that save having to painstakingly "draw round" an object the way you used to have to. You can do the layers in the other order of course, and just reverse the mask to hide the B&W car. Quote

Tried this a while ago, drawing around a car using a mouse pad it a little tricky. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Absolutely, I've done it the old fashioned way and it can be an absolute nightmare, needing almost pixel bi pixel refinement All the way. Now though the tools have become so good that with the right picture, they will sometimes almost get it in one. I'm findin the average picture just needs a little tidying, and it's only very occasionally now that I need to drill down and refine at a pixel level. Haven't tried the lates gen PS, I'm still on 4, but I believe that and it's equivalent Elements are even better. Not used Paintshop Pro for a few years, so not so familiar with it's work flow any more. Quote
rocket_rabbit Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 First time I drove the car and I was a little late on the brakes Quote
Dibby Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Dibby how do you do the black n white background and colour foreground thingy. Tripod and two photos taken or is it just done digitally? It was all digital, like Gadgetman says, create 2 layers, instead of using an automatic mask I used the eraser tool, thick one to start and a thin one to go round in detail. Quite liking the digital revolution and playing with photos Quote

Dibby Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 No longer my car but the last photo I took of the car That's a great shot. Is that the wide-track front suspension? I swear my front wheels won't hit anywhere near that angle and the turning circle is about the diameter of Jupiter Quote
