pistonbroke Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 The club seems to be suffering a little from reduced membership fees .... Looking at the 'Have you renewed' thread, I wonder if maybe the reason the membership has reduced is because I believe there are not reminders sent out(am I correct on this?), hence no one is renewing as they don't realise they have to? I don't know if I am out of membership or not, I know we always used to get a reminder. expiry date should be on your WSCC membership card Quote
DerekJ Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I do agree that the 50 page mag that we, premium members, get could be shaved down a bit but please do keep the free offers part as I use it a lot. Providing that the super high res pictures are as clear in the PDF format I have no problem with it. DerekJ P.S. If it keeps this club up and running then I propose a general increase in fees / call for one-off voluntary donation / car boot sale etc. Anything that helps to keep the best car club on the web alive. P.P.S. How about a WSCC ebay sales account? We all have loads of tat (aka used parts) that are just kicking about in the garage. If we, as members, donate the parts (Do the shipping direct from our places? ) then the club could get some cash and we could get rid of some of the stuff that's been cluttering up our workshops up for years. I'm not an e-bay seller so I don't know the ins and outs of how it works but I'll bet someone on here could work out how this could be done. DJ Quote
Delboy Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I can't see that non members get any less from surfing our boardroom than paid up members do from the magazine! Perhaps the membership numbers are dwindling because anyone can get all the info they need from here without the need to join? Perhaps we should limit the boardroom to members only? Del Quote
Terry Everall Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I think Del makes a very good point that a lot of people who might join dont bother cos we answer all their issues here whether they are members or not Can everyone post on here or should we make it read only for non members Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I like the magazine but being a tightwad I don't especially want a rise in subs. The other problem with the physical version is that I hoard the damned things not wanting to throw out something so obviously done by dint of effort. Often there are techy items that I want to keep anyway. PDF format would be ideal for me. Quote

Del *If* membership is dwindling perhaps it *might* be due to folks tightening their belts, due to the current climate Personally think it would be a sad day if the WSCC went members only As there are Non members who make and offer positive comment and advice Just my 2p though Quote

But if subscriptions no longer cover running costs of the club then all options need looking at! I'm sure our Webmaster must be able to pull information off to see how many members and non members are registered on the boardroom! Could be very interesting Del Quote

I don't know if I am out of membership or not, I know we always used to get a reminder. Speaking as a fairly new member I agree with this comment. I didn't realise my membership had ran out until I asked why I hadn't received my calendar when at Stonleigh. After paying up again at Stoneleigh, I tried in vane to get my account up and running again and in the end gave up and re-registered as ][\/][ajor1 I nearly gave up completely as the whole registering lark took up far too much of what little spare time I have. If it were to happen again, I think I'd be 'one less member'. Please understand, not having a go just giving you an opinion from a fairly new members point of view for what it's worth. With regards to checking my membership card as to the expiry date, this seems a bit primitive to be honest. A nice little e mail reminder wouldn't go a miss. Steve Edited to add PDF would be fine with me and is probably the most sensible way forward but having said that, I do look forward to getting the paper copy. Would I look forward to receiving a PDF.....I doubt it Quote
windy Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Could be worth considering offering sponsorship of the web site to pull in funds to subsidise the existing magazine. Alternatively the club could publish a web based newsletter for people to view online. Here is an example http://www.lotuscars.com/engineering/en/proactive-issue41 Quote
Lurksalot Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 It takes a lot less effort to keep members than to attract new ones , sometimes a little handholding, prompting , etc might keep members on board. I do get a little concerned when I read some of the issues of membership 'registration' and the odd frustrations of renewals etc . It may well be the responsibility of the member to renew on time , but surely the club could also make the gesture by inviting them to renew, even just by way of a reminder ? Quote
