Selling a car, Strange Emails

Recommended Posts

Has anyone got any experience of selling cars online?

Put my Mx5 up for sale on pistonheads and autotrader and have had a couple of strange emails, very early in the morning wanting to know "Final Price" and "Last price"

Anyone any ideas whether I should bother or are they scammers!!

Cheers

They are all scam e-mails. I just sold a car recently via Auto trader and I must have had 15 or 20 of e-mails like that. More so each time I reduced the price.

The tell tale sign is that they very rarely sign off with their name and they are generating a number of different names and probably do not know what e-mail address it is that they are sending it from.

They will suggest that they can give you the full price but will send an agent to pick it up as they are away for some reason. Then the scam starts, either they send you a cheque that you cash but they can revert this before the transaction completes or even 2 weeks after. Or they send fake Paypal information and ask you for additional transfers to pay the agency fees that they will cover.

To overcome, either get them to call you or insit that they view the car.

You can have some fun by winding them up for a while but I am affriad they are probably fake as I have lots of

them.

But if you are like me, you had to check each one, just incase they were an interested buyer.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Nice Blue Westy. I had just the same when selling a camera a while back. They often want to send you a Western Trust money order for more than the agreed price, then they want you to pay the difference to their "agent" on collection. Oh, and they dont leave you time to discover the money order is stolen or forged.

So you end up losing you goods, and some cash if you fall for it.

Basically, they are waste of space.
