Timmay Zoom Zoom Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I need to repair a thread for my alternator bracket into head on C20XE engine. Looking at buying these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm....M687478 Anybody tried are they any good? Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 We use http://www.timesert.com/ in my workshop. I have used helicoil kits in the past but the timesert is much better IMO. Quote
s2rrr Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 If used and inserted correctly this type of thread repair is a recognised engineering solution. As Matt says he has knowledge of one system better than the helicoil system which used to be the industry standard. I would bow to superior experience and go with his recommendation. They may be more expensive but what would happen if the alternator bracket came adrift. You may be able to get the thread repaired locally for less than the cost of a full kit of maybe a lesser breed. Doesn't the upper mount go into the manifold ? Bob Quote
