Bean Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 The MOT tester doesn't know the regulations, requires educating. Probably. But personally, I'm too old to educate the rest of the ignorant MOT testers in the country. Fit the repeaters for the sake of, what, £20, and have a quiet and possibly safer life. True, took me two attempts to find a decent MOT tester. Wouldn't want to fit side repeaters, think about the extra weight Quote

peksi74 Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 Alright a bit of an update on this as I finally managed to bring my Westy back to life after a small engine fire at Brands plus a blown head gasket... I called Tower Garage Marlow and they said their reference point was an electronic version of the MOT testers manual. Anybody happen to know whether this is different to the 2010 manual mentioned earlier in this thread? Anyway they said the MOT testers manual has no separate reference to Q plate cars and side repeaters. Could someone be able to send me a link to the respective clause or a scan of the page by email (pekka.mettala at gmail.com)? Many thanks, - Peksi Quote
Captain Colonial Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 It's in Section 1.4 of the manual linked on the first page: "Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must be fitted with one side repeater indicator on each side. Instead of a separate lamp, the side repeater might be part of the front direction indicator if it includes a wraparound lens. Lamps incorporating a side repeater are marked either with an ‘E’ mark in a circle or an ‘e’ mark in a rectangle above which is a number 5. However, some vehicles are fitted with a wraparound lens with no European approval markings. These can be tested by standing approximately 1000mm to the side of the vehicle’s rear bumper with the indicator on. If amber light can be seen coming through the front lens (not a reflection) this is acceptable." No exceptions I can see, personally. Sorry. Quote
locost westie Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Anybody happen to know whether this is different to the 2010 manual mentioned earlier in this thread? It is the same manual, they should also have a paper version aswell. Mick Quote
TAFFYY Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Hi If your car is reg as a Q plate it does not require side flashers .It comes under 1973 reg Quote
Paul D Turner Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Registered 93 on a Q, used 3 places for MOT's over the years, no side indicators, never had a problem. Mates car is a 92 on a J, had side indicators from day one, he recently fitted new wings and put small side indicators in the side of the headlight bowls, looks really neat but would look way neater (IMHO) with clear lenses not amber.
