rob iles Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 For a simpler solution you could get a new lower pressured switch Did this myself 2 weeks ago , purchased from Premiere wiring solutions for just a few quid Lights now come on with the slightest touch of the pedal Quote

brindle Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Can't help you on make/where to buy, but I know a man who can .. try PM'ing Dan (brindle) who fitted the one to my car when he owned it Its really easy and works like this: 1 - on the rod behind the brake pedal which goes through the bulkhead (assuming floor mounted pedals)there is some thread where the locking nut tightens up to the back of the brake pedal. fit another 2 nuts on this thread and inbetween the 2 new nuts fit either a really large washer - like 40mm diameter or fabricate a similar piece of ally. 2 - the thing that got me was i didnt realise that when the microswitch has no pressure on it -its completes a circuit - ie the brake light is on, when the switch is depressed, the circuit is broken so the light is off. 3 - with this in mind fit the switch onto another piece of ally or similar (you will need to make this) which can be fixed to the floor behind the brake pedal so that when the brake pedal is in its normal position, the washer on the back of the pedal shaft depresses the switch and the circuit is broken - i.e. the light is off. as soon as you press the pedal, you move the washer away from the microswitch, meaning the switch goes into its naturally closed state and the light comes on. 4 - find the old brake switch on the other side of the bulkhead and drill a hole just above it big enough to fit 2 wires through. piggy back the two wires onto the exisitng switch terminals, leaving them still connected and connect the other ends through the hole to the microswitch. this means that you have two switches operating the brake lights and so give yourself a safety system if for some reason the micoswitch fails. All you have to do is play around with the position of the washer on the brake pedal rod and the mounting for the switch so that you only need to move the brake pedal a few mm before it activates the brake lights and that your foot or the brake pedal assy doesnt foul the switch and mount even at full pressure - of course make sure the same goes for when you are using the clutch and acelerator. You can mount it all far enough back that it doesn't cause a problem. Finally fit a nice high level light (you can figure that one out yourself - have fun drilling the roll bar ), seal everything to keep it water tight and feel safe in the knowledge that when your brake pedal is pressed, the lights come on! Simples. Edited to add - this worked for me - but please assess whether this will work for you and please get any modifications done by and checked by a professional mechanic / motor electrician before using your car again!
