Dibby Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Yep, exatly the same scam that was going round 10 years ago selling my old Escort, they offered £5k for a £250 car, I'd pay their 'shipping company' something like £3k and keep the rest ... right-o! Which is why I though it was time to have some fun with them. Lead them on, dangle a juicy carrot and the'll bend over backwards to get their mitts on a free car, ask for photos of them to prove their identity, with a loaf of bread on their head to guarantee it is actually them, ask for them to hold up a sign with the slogan of your choice on it, ask for the cheque to be made out to your agent, Phil McRevis or Pat Maballs ... mine was made out to Hugh G Rection Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 my golden rule is "always sell the car on your terms not the buyers" if you dont feel comfortable with it dont do it Quote
mikef Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I sold my Caterham (I know! But I did see the light and came across from the dark side) sight unseen to a dealer up North. I explained that I was not happy and would prefer that he saw it before buying. He indicated that he was a Caterham expert and quite happy to buy it without seeing it. However, I insisted on cash and a chap in a car transporter came to pick it up with a large brown envelope. Ironically, I made sure the collection driver signed for it "as seen and inspected". We did the paperwork and off he went. Deal done! Quote
