Enterpryse Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 I'm building an SDV with 2L Pinto and have a dilemma regarding the dissy. The one I have is for an ECU, ie not vacuum advance. On the assumption that I would need to buy a second hand unit with the vacuum advance to get on the road would I be better off using this dissy and putting the dosh towards some other ECU gizmo which would work with it. Any suggestions ?? Stuart Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 4, 2003 Posted August 4, 2003 Grab a boggo electronic ignition off a Sierra and an Aldon dizzy - cheap (ish), reliable and sorted. Quote
Blatman Posted August 4, 2003 Posted August 4, 2003 Yup. Also, if you're fitting Webers or Dellortos, getting the vac advance to work is a bit of a b*******. Get an RS2000 non vac dizzy, or what Mark suggested........ Quote
Enterpryse Posted August 4, 2003 Author Posted August 4, 2003 Thanks Mark but do you mean use the ECU off the Sierra and if so where can I get the info for the hook up? I'm still a little confused about this to be honest. The car will have twin 40s by the time its finished and a mild road cam. Cheers Stuart Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 4, 2003 Posted August 4, 2003 ECU off the Sierra and if so where can I get the info for the hook up Yep that little box of tricks that you can grab for about £5 or £10 from a scrappie with its wiring Then post another Q and hope that an auto-electrcian can answer on the black art of wiring on what goes to what The guy at Aldon was very helpful in 1996 Quote
Enterpryse Posted August 5, 2003 Author Posted August 5, 2003 Ahh, OK. I have the ECU but didn't think it was programmable. The man at Aldon is on his Hols, lucky b******* so no joy there with the Dissy either. Tell me some of the Dissy's I see advertised say no vacum advance. In this case is the advance picked up from the manifold to the ECU or some mechanical gizmo in the dissy itself. Or both perhaps ??!! BTW I am going to become a member but once the car is more ready- just thought I'd pre-empt an inevitable question, sri Cheers Stuart Quote

Mark Stanton Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 Its not the box that programmeable - Aldon tweak and fettle their own dizzy to suit the ad curve Wait till yer mans back from his hols and get one to suit Quote
Enterpryse Posted August 5, 2003 Author Posted August 5, 2003 OK Ta, will give them a call later on. I don't need it yet, what I do need to get a rolling chassis though are some wheel nuts for the ford alloys. BFN Stuart Quote
