karlgurney Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 I have high back seats with the willians four point harnesses, the factory have said to pass sva i have to fit the two shoulder straps to the futhest out board mount and the others to the inner most raised mount. I've read through the willians fitting guide and it states they have to be fitted symetrically 9" apart, if i fit them the way the factory says it would mean one strap the one over the drivers left shoulder is slightly off the shoulder which in my eyes is unsafe. The chassis has 3 mounting points behind each seat and there are two which are 9" apart so why are they there if you don't use them? Cheers Karl Quote
PhilD Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 I asked Westfield the same question. I got the impression Mark thought I was extremely stupid when I mentioned bolting the inner most eyelets to the raised mounts. I got through SVA with them in the correct mounting points (all in line on the top cahssis rail). Bit of contradictory information from Westfield I think, but why does that not suprise me. Quote
karlgurney Posted August 2, 2003 Author Posted August 2, 2003 yes i agree it was only after i had cut the holes out on the boot box 4 of, that i phone the factory because they had only gave me 2 bushes i asked them why and they told me i didn't need 2, still they put them in the post to me any way. A**e elbow comes to mind. Quote
JimNoble Posted August 4, 2003 Posted August 4, 2003 If you use the proper mounting points without a spacer, you run the risk of failing because the seatbelt mounting point has to be a certain distance above the base of the seat for SVA (despite it contradicting the advice from Willans etc). Either use two spacers (Westfield can supply), or one spacer and the higher inertia reel mounting point on the inside. Take photos of the eye bolt before it's hidden away if possible, as the examiner may be concerned that there isn't enough thread in the mounting boss with the spacer in there. Not sure if it's a problem with bucket seats, as the SVA measuring device that the examiners use will sit lower in the seat. Consult the SVA manual if in doubt... Jim Quote
PhilD Posted August 4, 2003 Posted August 4, 2003 In addition to my previous post: If you have the race seats (bucket seats), with the cutouts in the back for the harness to come through, then these cutouts can be treated as the mounting point height and the car should pass SVA with all four eyelets screwed into the top chassis rail. If however you only have the high back seats then you probably will have to use the raised mounting points to ensure compliance with SVA. Sorry for any confusion. Quote
