There is a SEI for sale with a 4age motor - very pretty looking car. But as a complete "newbie" I'd appreciate any guidance on what to look for when buying an SEI like this and all views/feedback on Toyota engined Westies in particular.???

Cheers!

There aren't many Westy's about with the Toyota lump in this country.  I can only assume that this is more to do with the fact that Zetec and VX parts are more readily available and cheaper to upgrade.  Toyota engine is excellents and an ideal engine for the car.  The enigne should be very reliable but still look for all the usual signs such as mayonaise in the oil cap, blue smoke on start up, oil level and colour, oil pressure when the car is running.  Water temp to check its not overheating or over cooling.  Check the discs and pads etc...  The only things specific to a Westy that you probably need to check are things like the chassis condition and the electrics.  The rest is normal tin top checks.

I'm assuming that its Nick Petty's car you're talking about.  If its as good as it looks, somebody will get themselves a bargain with that car.  I fancied it myslef.

I bought a 4age Westfeild earlier this year.  Like the one for sale at moment the conversion was carried out by  RAW.  All in all the conversion on mine has been completed very neatly (with the exception of the cut out for the exhaust hole). I have done three trackdays in the past couple of months and the car and engine have behaved prefectly (well apart from the tyres - but that is another story!;).

I have owned MR2's for a number of years and the 4age has an excellent reputation for reliabilty and soaking up abuse,  which is part of the reason I went down this route.

Mine has been upgraded to Tracpac 1, which increases engine power to 160bhp.  I haven't driven a standard 4age car.

If you have any specific question just ask.

I had a 4age engine in my old toyota corolla gti.

It never gave any problems, even after a fare ammount of abuse..

The only thing that broke was the ignition igniter and that cost £30 from a scrappy.

With a westy weighting a lot less than a corolla it should be alot of fun.  :t-up:

Nothing too exciting about the tyres, The car had some old Pirelli P6 tyres on it when I bought it.  After a few hard laps in the dry the top layer of rubber started to peel of the tyres and it made cornering and braking not quite as good as it should have been ??? To be honest I knew the tyres were rubbish but didn't want to change them just to wear out a new set on an airfield.

Anyway I have now replaced them with some A032Rs so hopefully the car will stick to the ground it bit better when the car is next on track :)
