nikpro Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Can I ask what is wrong with the XTR2? Is it not going to be used? Quote
Speed Freak Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Old civic type r...Plus with left over money, invest in TB's and you'll be getting 230 hp.. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2884128.htm Quote

Speed Freak Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 itbs--- individual throttle bodies http://websites.uk-plc.net/DMF_PER....nes.htm scroll down 3/4 to the itbs @1400 quid! Quote
SteveD Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 individual bodies to b****r all on the type r ,because the standard manifold is that good ,tried and tested so have others the cost just is not worth it Quote
Speed Freak Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Im suprised youve said that, as I know youre "The honda specialist". I did speak to those guys at the link I posted tho and They seemed to think that with the civic the standard intake is a pile of junk..? It was the s2000 intake they said was damn hard to improve on. They quoted me that with the skunk 2 plenum 20-25hp improvements and 30 with the itbs...! Steveeee I'll take your word for it tho Quote
SteveD Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 sounds like crap to me tbh wuv those gains are just ridiculous ,me thinks they just want to sell some manifolds or tb's ,you will struggle to beat standard manifold with hondata ecu for value (bhp per buck) Quote
SteveD Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 not saying you wont get gains but not that much by far , sounds like the usual bulls*** in people trying to justify there parts ,i have nothing to sell or gain just saying what i know from experience Quote
Speed Freak Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Mate I with you- Clearly just bullcrap. I know youve been there, done that, got the stinking t-shirt too! ;-) Quote
SteveH Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 If you are looking for a contrast to the XTR2 then you want a fwd hot hatch, good for all weathers. If it's for proper road use as well then a decent Clio is liveable with and will keep up with most of the traffic on a trackday, if it just needs to be road legal to drive to trackdays then you will pick up a well modded 205 or early Golf with a bit of change to spare, couple hundred BHP and tidy handling in a light car will make a lot of expensive kit look pretty silly, especially on wet day which is what I would guess I have in mind....... This is exactly what I have done, this is for dry days - and this is for wet days (1.6 16v with a charger = a lot of fun!) - Quote
juansolo Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 or what does everyone think would be a good (cheap) chassis to start a bike engined track project, lightness and a decenct handling chassis? maybe a bit different than the norm, ie mini's etc.... I dont have to go down the BEC route only an idea, am also thinking to start from shell and do a bike engined track car 5k will not get me very far at all? The problem with BECs in this day and age is noise. If you're building a track car the last engine I'd stick in it is a bike engine sadly. We has all manner of bother getting the old Radical quiet enough for some tracks and a friend has similar bother with his Fury. It's just not worth the effort. Quote
funbobby Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 You might just squeeze a "dog c*ck" red 182 Trophy in for 5k. Awesome handling. Or a 182/172 with some coilovers and pocket the change over a trophy? 106 gti? DC2 Integra? Very true - a 172 cup can be bought for about 3k for a decent one and Yozzasport do a Bilstein suspension pack for about £2200 which is awesome. They did recomend if you want to tune up a clio over time then get a standard 172 and strip it out as Renaultsport do the full motorosport catalogue for them still. If you want one for the road a 182 full fat. If you want one for the track and road and you dont want to do to much to it a 182 Trophy as the remote Sachs dampers are pretty awesome. Pat Flynn runs the 205 challenge cup and the forum has loads of good advice as they do the 205's and RWD BMW Challenge with the Clio as well to eventually take over from the 205. You could do worse then picking up a car of here mind too. The Beamers are pretty quick. click below for linky. My Webpage Quote
D7PNY Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Clio or 106 would definately get my vote. This would be what I would have sitting in the garage if I hadn't got the westfield. Had both as road cars in the past and they are fantastic! So easy to drive fast its rediculous. You could drive them on the limit all day long and still not get into trouble! Worth mentioning that they are both dirt cheap to run to which is a bonus!Clio will do 35+mpg easily! Would have either one as a daily hack to work given half the chance but might get some funny looks at work and I need a car that can tow! Cheers, Dave Quote
