.

Feel for the 23 year old Californian, having out driven the cream of oval racing he blew a couple of million dollars on the last corner

People just do not realise how difficult oval racing is. Rookie mistake, what a price to pay.  Poor sod.

Gutted for the rookie, but I remember watching Wheldon (the eventual winner) racing in karts when he was about 12! God I'm old

I worked for a while at a Nascar team and Brian Vickers, one of the sprint cup drivers explained to me how it works.  The conversation went something like:

BV: We have 39 races in a year, 37 ovals and 2 street circuits.

Me: The street circuits sound fun, where are they?

BV: Watkins Glen and (somewhere else, I can't remember where).

Me: Watkins Glen's a race track, not a street circuit.

BV: No, a street circuit is anywhere we turn right!

What's the Indy 50, by the way?  Fuel costs shortened the race?

crazy incident , but at least he had the skill and determination to get over the line , most crashes like that end up with the wreck spewing across the circuit collecting a dozen others

Surely matey that he was lapping shoulda got outta the throttle on the straight? lol

With 4 banked corners per lap and 14 meters of track width available I would have thought the previous 499 3/4 laps would have been enough practise at lapping backmarkers  :sheep:
