Yes, but a turbo busa power can also be easily set to "only" 220 bhp, and up to 380 bhp, all from the drivers seat if required.

Unuseable IMO and possibly dangerous in a light car such as westy.

I seem to recall a 330 bhp ZEi220 that was reported to be silly to drive hard.

Don't forget it only goes as fast as you want it to. That's why cars have throttle pedals...  :)

Doesn't matter if it has 150, 300, or 600bhp - if you don't want it to be a handful only use part throttle..

If it's a track car then there's absolutely no reason why you couldn't make use of all the power.

Personally if I had the chance to drive/own a 380bhp westy I'd jump at it though.  :D  :love:

Might depend a little bit on how the power is delivered, but with careful attention to the whole package I can't see why it shouldn't be perfectly usable.

I think part of the problem with the 330bhp Cossie powered cars is that they're quite heavy and so while you might well be ballistically quick in a straight line, you have more weight to slow down and get round corners.  A BEC with more power might very well be a more balanced and manageable contraption.

Plus with the right turbo boost controller, the rate boost is built can be fine tuned, even to which gear your in.

Any Westfield with about 800bhp/ton should have some form of control assistance!

Still dosn't get away from the fact that anything (no matter what engine) over 220bhp in a westfield is a nightmare to put down on road tyres

I beg to differ.

Have you actually driven a 220bhp plus westy on road tyres to back that statement up??

I have and it's easy. So ner!  :p

Rather depends on the whole configuration though. My 240 brake Cossie is a pussycat to drive, BUT, much of the drivetrain is still more road, rather than track biased. It has a standard Pinto clutch cover, for instance, with a heavy duty, standard sized plate. It also has a standard, but lightened slightly, flywheel. However, if (actually, when...) I were to fit a proper lightened flywheel, a 7.25" clutch with heavy duty/race cover and twin paddle clutch plates, it'd be a bit of a b*******.

You could then go to a silly light flywheel, 5" multiplate clutch with no springs, and you'd never get it away from the lights at Tesco's without stalling, or dialling in 4-5000rpm, and dumping the clutch.......

As with many subjects, it's horses for courses, IMHO......

Agreed 100% however...

My westy has 2 bike engines with a combined bhp of (allegedly) 304bhp. Obviously the usual light flywheels & clutches inherent in most BECs. Also has the added complication of having to avoid stalling one engine, which is easier to do than you'd imagine.. and a transfer box adding further to the overall level of drivetrain shunt. :blush:

The car is setup for the track rather than road, and yet, despite its knackered road tryres, it still goes to Sainsburys on occasion, and frequently takes me to work. :D

My point was really that high powered cars are not a "nightmare" to drive on the road, as spyderlegs maintains - merely quick if you choose to drive them that way. You soon get used to whatever power output you have and drive the car accordingly.

Yes somebody getting out of a standard road spec westy may have some difficulty adjusting to this in the first instance, but they would soon get used to it. Its not hard..

Either the original chassis design - although this may possibly be amended by some additional checking and re-configuring  :D  :D

or the drivers ability  :blush:  :blush:  :blush:  :D  :D

Nah, you just need better brakes!  You can never have too much power :D

Just thought i'd register and say hi, I've been lurking for a while now.  I haven't got a seven yet, but soon.  Either a turbo busa or a cossie!
