hilux Posted July 3, 2003 Posted July 3, 2003 We should all sell our Westys and buy a VX220? After all it is better than an Elise That new VX 220 is a serious alternative (been in one ) but its ****e inside, really cheap and nasty. But it goes and handles, seriously try one, blag a test drive, they are awesome. "Dont knock it until you`ve tried it" Quote
Nick M Posted July 3, 2003 Posted July 3, 2003 No !! Please, everyone knock the VX 220 and tell all your mates how rubbish they are !!* *that way the prices will drop even further and I might be able to get one without SWMBO having a(nother) fit !! I quite like them and as an Elise alternative I'd certainly think about one. Quote
mb893 Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 "Dont knock it until you`ve tried it" Sorry just thought that your comment was a bit of a non-sequitur... in That all it told me was some test driver at CCC mag thought that the VX was better than the Elise - and my odd sense of humour took control. Did you mean that the Engine out of a....... sorry, sorry there I go again Quote
neilwillis Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 Remaining tight lipped. I still think....... Quote

NHC Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 Hi, Having sold a "car type" engined Westy and got a Megabusa, all I can say is, **** me it goes like nothing I have ever been in before. Don't discount a bike engine till you have been in a Westy with one in. As regards to how long it will last, are you wanting to do a 150,000 miles plus on the motorway, or you wanna have some fun? !!!!. Quote
milky2971 Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 I'd only just bought my x-flow powered Westy (had it about 6 weeks) and was offered a spin in a megablade.... the rest is history I now have a mint blade lump and all the parts on order for its fitment (which I need NOW! the cars just come back from the paintshop....bl**** addictive car and this is no BS but by selling the x-flow carbs exhaust etc I have actually only parted with 800 quid I can fit it myself (one the bl**** bits arrive) I ended up buying a complete bike off the guy who crashed it and Ive got all the history proving what the bike has been though inc all reciepts since purchase after a spin in the 'blade' I knew instantly what I wanted from my car and now really cannot wait I work in the motor trade every day of the week and am still looking forward to the conversion (Not usually to interested after years of rallying/repairing the car week in week out) Its up to you to select your preference but like all have said theres good and bad in both CEC and BEC but Id like to have my problems with a BEC if poss please (cause I can lift it out on my own lol) all the best and more importantly enjoy your ride whatever you decide Trev Quote
hilux Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 Don't discount a bike engine till you have been in a Westy with one in. I have absolutely no doubt that they rev but what about engine braking then Methinks that a car engine wont have to change gear mid corner Why are all bike engined cars fitted with high revving no torque engines. What about firestorm instead of a fireblade, or a Vmax engine then, thats what I would go for, power AND torque (unless you know otherwise) Personal opinion of course Coat on even though it is summer Quote
Mark Stanton Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 Put your handbags away This BEC v CEC is more like C******m v Westfield v Throbbin Hood Just think there's always someone worse off than yourself Now where did I put that old Spartan Owners Guide Quote
jasonlycett Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 Lots of people knocking something they havent tried for themselves! As for no torque, have you tried a Megabusa mate?, 100 lb's of torque in a flyweight car is just fine and because of the gearing it pulls like a train in 6 th gear! then wait to you get to 6,000! I've had both westfields car and bike, there are pro's and cons. Yes BEC's are generally more tricky to drive around town due to the on/off clutch and lack of flywheel weight, but i have learnt to drive the car differently and it really isnt a problem after a while. But i didn't buy one to drive to Tesco's (even though i do sometimes! I know that when i put my foot down, nothing , and i mean nothing, can match the feeling of awesome acceleration coupled with a fantastic 10,000 RPM scream as i pull back on that seqential lever! Car and Bike engines are both great in the right application, they just do the job in a different way. Nuff said! Quote
hilux Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 Steady on jason I have absolutely no doubt that they rev but what about engine braking then I only make this statement (not to be prevocative but to be educated) having viewed videos of blade/busa cars on a track it is apparent that it is a different technique. I have seriously thought about building one cos I was gonna buy a TVR until I test drove my Westy and bought it on impulse without realising BEC`s were available If anyone has a BEC at Mallory on 18th I would love to blag a ride in one for a lap or two to experience the different dynamics etc Sequential gears Quote
DodgeT Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 gotta agree, those BEC's have got no torque.. i mean, when i had my blade RR'd, we went for a test drive, 2 up, from 20mph in 6th gear, uphill, it pulls & pulls until we were redlining before you make sweeping statements about "no torque" "driveability" go out, have a go in one, or better still drive one, then make up your mind oh, yeh, my car had a x-flow in it before which had plenty of torque.. doesnt feel like i have any less now, think its to do with something called gearing horses for courses tho, i suppose.. i drive mine to the shops, to work, to the pub, blast on country roads, trackdays, good weather, wet weather, not a problem in town, if you cant control a clutch then perhaps you should have an automatic Quote
